The Dressing Room -
"A Small Restaurant" by Conceptually Social
Who are we?
Conceptually Social is Troy Watkins and Kyu Utsunomiya.
The only thing that has lasted as long as our 20-plus years of friendship has been our careers in the restaurant industry.
We’ve spent over two decades each, working for the top restaurant and hotel companies in the world. We’ve also been fortunate enough to have learned from some of the best visionaries that our industry has to offer.
We’ve worked tirelessly and have sacrificed a great deal to prepare us for this next giant leap.
We could have easily continued working for an established restaurant company. However, what we learned was that we were meant to do something special together and utilize the tremendous education we received in the service industry.
It’s through a combination of much success and even lessons in loss that we realized our time is now…
Yes it’s a gamble, but we’re in it together and we will succeed.
What’s The Dressing Room?
The Dressing Room is unique!
The name is one of a kind, but we know that the name will soon spread to become a familiar name in the neighborhood.
The Dressing Room is a tribute to the history and the nostalgia that our restaurant represents to our neighborhood. Our building was used many years ago as a “dressing room” for Phoenix’s first drag bar next door.
Times have changed and our restaurant will bring the next phase of life to this location.
Some may call it a “micro-restaurant” …
Others may refer to it as “street food”...
We consider it to be both of those examples and much, much more.
The Dressing Room serves “elevated shack food” positioned as an urban neighborhood restaurant that’s open all day and even late-night!
It’s an exciting concept that features a simple menu of high-quality ingredients, quick counter service, and delivery service on electric bikes to the ASU campus, local businesses and neighborhoods in downtown Phoenix.
There will be a full bar experience with simple delicious cocktails, draft beer and great wines on tap.
Why do you need the money?
We started the project with the intent of designing a small interior dining room with an intimate patio out back.
It wasn’t until recently that we were given approval by the city to expand the property and build something truly special.
We now have the opportunity to build a one-of-a-kind outdoor experience in the front, back and roof-top of The Dressing Room. This additional design element will allow us to create a dynamic presence in Downtown Phoenix and in our neighborhood on Roosevelt Row.
We are using Kickstarter’s help to reach out to you – our friends, family and peers.
We want the people that we know and love to be a part of our dream!
We are seeking help from the community that we would like to serve. Our original budget was prepared for the initial space and building plan. Our new expansion opportunity requires extra capital, since it significantly changes our costs and design.
If you’ve ever wanted to say……
“I backed and helped open a great local restaurant,” or
“I helped add a great third place to my community,” …
This is your opportunity!
Before we go....
We'd like to thank all the friends who have made the creation of this Kickstarter project possible. If it wasn't for your advice, support and most importantly, belief in this concept, we wouldn't have been able to put this campaign together!

Risks and challenges
Our goal is to open in April 2015, but any construction project is subject to delays. Everyone who backs this project will receive updates on the progress of our construction and photos of The Dressing Room coming together, making you the first to know all the latest news about our highly-anticipated opening.
As the core of our project has already begun, the recent opportunity for expanded patio and rooftop access is currently in its final design and development stage. This is our one and only focus and priority!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
