OCS students have been making award winning films for 10 years without a budget. Imagine what we could do with a little bit of cash?
The semester is 20 weeks long. We hope to have our films finished before the student film festival cycle that corresponds with the end of the semester. We will follow the following process:
1- Each of the 20 students in the class will write a 2 minute pitch.
2- The class will vote on the pitches and will select the most interesting 10.
3- Students will break into writing teams of 2 and will write scripts for the top 10.
4- The class will again vote on the best films.
5- If we make our kickstarter goal, we can afford to produce between 3 and 5 short films based on budget and length. So we would next reduce the 10 scripts to between 3 and 5 selections.
6- Students would then be assigned pre-production jobs.
7- after completing pre-production would re-assign roles and begin production.
8- ditto for post. . .
9- Then we package and bring it to festivals and send it to you. . .
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The risks and challenges are, we hope, what this kickstarter is all about. We have produced some amazing films in these classes. We have also made some duds. There has always been a risk that students, not fully embracing the project, make mediocre films. We hope that creating a more professional environment will produce more professional films. When we talk about the potential for this to work, the kids are SOOOOOO excited.
