In recognition of new promises to clean up the toxins in the land and water in our community, the Greenpoint Film Festival was launched in October of 2011. The renewed joy in the air called for a celebration. With cutting-edge curated programs, featuring films by top filmmakers – from Jonas Mekas to David Lynch – we sought to represent/present this platform of possibilities almost as a symbol of new thinking.
What's the new thinking? A reflection of a more sustainable, and therefore responsible, mindset; greater harmony with our environment; more efficient and renewable use of our resources; future-minded urban planning and design.....
Arts and culture form proven building blocks for neighborhood rebuilding, and being such a prominent force in North Brooklyn, are powerful tools to develop and maintain this visionary commitment.
September 20-23, 2012, GFF will screen in two locations in Greenpoint, sharing the artistic life of the community with the world, and bringing the world to Greenpoint.
While the organizers, staff and volunteers still work for free, we must meet our production costs, which include film and equipment rentals, print traffic, insurance, film projection, and promotional materials. Last year - special thanks to the generous support of our local sponsors – we were able to cover our expenses. In 2012, however, the Greenpoint Film Festival will be expanding to include high quality curated programs of both established and exciting new filmmakers, along with works selected from competitive submissions. So this year we require just a bit more to make the Greenpoint Film Festival an unmistakable success again.
Thank you in advance for your donations – any amount you can afford to give. Please see the list of amazing rewards we're offering for your support. Most importantly, we hope to see you at GFF for some great films and events this coming September.
