Hello! I'm Roosh, or as some of you may know me as Koteri Ink. Welcome to the Kings of Nowhere (KON) Kickstarter!. I've been anticipating this day since I started developing the world of KON back in 2011, and I couldn't be more excited to share this graphic novel with you all today.
You can find more about me and my work on my website, Instagram, and Facebook
Kings of Nowhere is a graphic novel full of adventure, crime, and mystery. During this Kickstarter, you will have a chance to receive the first volume of the book, and help fund the sequel!
The self-published book features Part 1 of Volume 1 and consists of 40 coloured pages, all bound by a high quality hardcover. But If the stretch goal of $20,000 is met, I will include BOTH parts 1 and 2, totaling 84 pages! (Not applicable to tier Capuchin)
I've worked hard to make sure the artwork is just as intriguing and powerful as the story itself. Each panel has been meticulously planned, making sure that nothing is skimped out on with respect to detail and quality.
Since the dawn of man, humans have been fascinated by the beast. Some of the first humans were bestowed with the gift of shifting into the animals that they worshiped. The shift, however, was permanent and there was no turning back to the human they once were.
The earliest Beasties were revered as gods. Anubis the jackal, Ganesha the elephant, and Wukong the monkey were examples of many. They were respected for their unparalleled physical strength, divine wisdom, and their connection to the spirit world.
Over the centuries, Beasties began to lose their place of reverence among the people. Fear sparked a revolution, and the once godlike were tossed into the fringes of society, marginalized as monsters and aberrations of the human race.
Hidden in the slums and away from hateful eyes, the Beasties learned to thrive in the criminal underworld, using their unique skills and primal instincts to gain the upper-hand on humans. The Beasties became the lords of their own domain, masters of the unseen - Kings of Nowhere!
Volume 1 revolves around the character Bili, a shy, quiet 12 year old who gets himself into trouble more often than he’d like. He's used to taking the occasional beating but during a particularly brutal assault, Bili – in an intense fit of rage and stress – shifts into a chimpanzee.
Broken and cast aside by his father and society, he was able to earn the respect of a fellow beastie, Hamed, who's been in the game a little longer. Together they begin to make their presence known in Lo Divino and introduce you to the world of Kings of Nowhere.
Through the development of KON, I've drawn endless inspiration from favourite animes, including Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop, movies like City of God and Snatch, and games like Bloody Roar and Grand Theft Auto.
Kings of Nowhere Thesis Film
This was my thesis film I made back in 2016 that was inspired by Kings of Nowhere. Enjoy!
Throughout this campaign, I will be offering a unique opportunity for backers to get signed copies of Kings of Nowhere. There’s also a limited number of certain reward bundles available so make sure to get them while you can!
I chose Kickstarter to launch my graphic novel because it allows me to offer you guys some special rewards that I wouldn't be able to otherwise. This includes a figurine, OST, t-shirt and more!
Enjoy the brilliant work of EyeloveBrandon with the release of the official Kings of Nowhere soundtrack. Ride shotgun with Hamed as you cruise through the warm streets of Lo Divino, or chill on the rooftops with Bili as you are serenaded by jazz and hip-hop infused beats influenced by the great late Nujabes. There’s a song for every moment of the book, there to enhance the reading pleasure of KON.
Take a listen to one of the tracks: Lo Divino
Represent Kings of Nowhere in this awesome one of a kind t-shirt illustrating an intense action scene from Volume 1. You’ll definitely grab some attention with the intriguing artwork and storytelling. More information about the production of the shirt soon.
The official poster of Kings of Nowhere will measure 8.5" x 11", printed on high quality 80lbs card-stock paper. An awesome edition to any room!
Commission a digitally painted bust of yourself as an animal of your choice! After the Kickstarter gets funded you will be sent a form to fill out where you'll choose the animal you'd like to be and the characteristics you'd like to have.
Not only do you get to commission a digitally painted bust of yourself as an animal of your choice but your character will appear in a page of Kings of Nowhere! This opportunity will only be available through this Kickstarter. Note that I will have the final decisions on where and how your character appears.
Kickstarter gives me special opportunity to thank those who made KON possible, by adding stretch goals to the campaign. The more the campaign funds, the more fun and unique, free-of-charge items I can give to my backers! Stretch goals apply to every tier except for Capuchin (Designs are not final).
I'm an artist based in Toronto. I graduated Sheridan College for Animation in 2016 and worked in the industry for a couple of years while developing Kings of Nowhere as a personal project. I left my full time commitment in 2017 in order to work on KON full time. I did not want to waste the potential it had and I believed KON could become something much bigger.
I already have aspirations of taking this to the next level, with a full animated series and KON the video game, hopefully with your love and support I will get there! Thank you so much for joining me on this journey. I hope you consider backing this campaign and help bring Kings of Nowhere to life!
What if I want more than one reward?
All rewards are pretty much set in stone, however if you'd like to receive something from another tier, please email me at email@example.com. If it becomes highly requested, I will make a new tier for that specific reward package.
What is Kickstarter?
For those who are new to Kickstarter, it's an awesome crowd-funding platform for creators to fund a project they're passionate about. Once the funding period ends, I will continue to finish the book and prepare the extra goodies which will be sent out in January 2019. Around a month before that you will be sent a survey asking for your address and any other information I'll need from you to send you your reward. Once again, I will be releasing updates here on Kickstarter, and even more frequently on all my social medias.
Feel free to email me if you have any questions about this Kickstarter.
Risks and challenges
This is my very first graphic novel, and also my first time releasing a kickstarter so I'm sure I'll be encountering some challenges along the way, but I'm highly determined and prepared to face them. I'm immensely passionate and dedicated to this project and can guarantee that you won't be disappointed with the outcome.
