Second Shift is an adult a cappella group located in the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, NC). We’re a co-ed, non-profit group that sings a wide variety of song styles. All of us have day jobs, and we do this for the love of the music, hence the name Second Shift!
Second Shift has been singing in the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, NC) for almost 12 years now, but it's been 5 years since the group has released any professionally-recorded music. That means that only 3 of our current group members were in the studio with the group, and NONE of the songs in our current repertoire are available for purchase! We've self-recorded songs in practice and in live concerts and released them on Soundcloud, but we want to take our work back to the mixing board and get professional help to release a new EP.
We already have the recording date scheduled for mid-August, but as a non-profit group that regularly does unpaid community concerts, we need your help to make this EP come to life! Your donations will help cover costs for studio recording time, editing, mixing, and licensing and promotional fees. With your help, we expect to have our EP ready for you to enjoy by winter of this year!
Risks and challenges
We've already got quotes from Liquid 5th, a local recording studio that specializes in a cappella music, including recording, mixing, editing, and mastering costs; priced out licensing and distribution fees; blocked out recording time; and created a short-list of songs we want to record. Short of any emergencies with group members, we've done all we can to minimize risks. The biggest challenge (since of course we all have "first shift" commitments!) will be to manage the administrative side of giving feedback quickly during mixing and editing.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
