Are We There Yet?

Take a Trip to Banksy's Britain

**We're getting a lot of enquiries from pledgers wishing to buy multiple rewards. To find out how to do this, please see FAQ below**

This large 250pp book is for everyone interested in Dismaland, Banksy, counter-culture art, photography and satire.

The book, which features over one hundred photographs, will be a thought provoking reminder for all those who visited 'Dismaland', the dystopian theme park established by Banksy and a team of artists and producers in Weston Super Mare UK, in the summer of 2015. It also re-opens Dismaland's gates for the many, many people around the world who wanted to go, but didn't make it .

This is 'sharp-eyed' street photography in full swing...

British photographer Barry Cawston documented the Dismaland site regularly from its launch on 20 Aug through to the masked ball on 27 Sept 2015. Each time he went there, he also went in to Weston Super Mare to photograph the town, the local people, the tourists and various scenarios which he encountered.

The resulting body of work is a snapshot of 21st century Britain and our interaction with art that was, paradoxically, a satire on our own reality. Deliberate pairings of Cawston's images contrast the art in Dismaland with scenes of contemporary British life outside its gates.

The 'Are We There Yet?' photographs are a record of a moment in time, which Cawston admits he didn't fully appreciate the significance of when he started it. In his images, as Oscar Wilde once said, "Life imitates art far more than art imitates life."

The book is part of a wider project, including an exhibition and social media channels, which high-fives Banksy and all the artists featured in Dismaland whose work makes us #QuestionEverything.

Why we're crowdfunding:

We're really grateful for everyone's support on this project so far! We hope that by pre-selling our self-published book (which has taken us a year to make) through Kickstarter, we might be able to fund its first print run and really get the photographs 'out there'.

Ultimately we would like to raise £20,000 - our stretch target - which will enable us to print 2000 books. Profits from sales of the book will then help to fund a touring exhibition. Print sales made at the exhibitions will then fund more exhibitions and ongoing management of the online version of the project on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram at @AreWeThereYetBk #QuestionEverything.

As well as the book, and a range of beautiful prints, we are offering original, thought provoking merchandise and unique experiences, such as a day in Weston and a portrait with everyone's favourite Dismal steward, Farhath Siddiqui 'The Face of Dismaland', and sand art commissions by Bristol graffiti crew The Paintsmiths.

For more details about our rewards, scroll down to the bottom of this page.

More about the book:

Like many Bristol kids, Banksy used to holiday in Weston and play at the Tropicana leisure centre, where he was to install his vast 'Bemusement Park' some thirty years on. The book's title 'Are We There Yet?' therefore nods to Banksy's Weston links old and new, and poses a question that alludes to a perceived point of change - viva la revolution!

Writers for the book include author Tristan Manco, Bristol street artist Felix (FLX) Braun (whose controversial ‘Kiss of Death’ mural, featuring Boris Johnson kissing Donald Trump, went viral, round the world in June), Dismal Steward Farhath Siddiqui 'The Face of Dismaland', Kath Cockshaw of Hopper Projects, and Rachael Hobson who visited the Tropicana many times in her teens.

'Are We There Yet?' is independently published by the Drugstore Gallery in association with Hopper Projects.

For more details about our rewards, scroll down to the bottom of this page.

Exhibitions:

A touring exhibition of the images kicks off in Weston Super Mare on September 20th at the Tropicana, the site used for Dismaland. Further venues will include Bristol, London, and Margate. If you have an idea for a venue for the show, please do get in touch! kath@hopperprojects.com
