“For a moment Chastity feared that his whole dumber-than-a-stick persona was some sort of routine to suck evil in and then destroy it. But then she realized that no one was smart enough to be as stupid as Whit.”
"The Beginning of Whit” is a humorous take on the dark and adventurous life of a demon hunter. Our hero, Whit Clayborne, brings his innocence and naivete to the world of Big City.
Overconfident and under-equipped, Whit feels more than ready to tackle his first major assignment as a Demon Hunter, but he isn't prepared to make new friends, fall in love, or have a sandwich named in his honor. Whit has a lot of growing up to do if he wants to save the city and get the girl.
This is a story about Whit, a naive twenty-something man trying to prove himself as a fledgling demon hunter. Exploring the world around him and what it really means to be a man.
This is a story about Big City, the mythical haven for all supernatural creatures, and a place that does not take kindly to demon hunters, no matter how nice or oblivious they happen to be.
This is a story about Lux, the lovely lady running the local donut shop: the Stake Out, who catches Whit’s eye and also happens to also be a vampire.
This is a story about all the crazy characters that live in Big City and the connections Whit makes with them. Even though he’s sworn to fight evil, and believes all supernatural creatures are evil, he doesn’t realize the majority of those he meets are supernatural and he thinks they’re all the best thing since sliced bread.
This is a story about how complicated it is trying to find yourself, trying to live up to the ideals of manhood placed before you, trying to make your dead grandfather proud, and trying to do what you think is right when you were conditioned to believe all the wrong things about the world.
This is the beginning of a series about how the world is not black and white; good vs. evil. How we must decide for ourselves who we want to be and what we want to believe. To trust our own hearts and not go forward blindly believing what we’ve been told by those that may have been mistaken themselves.
Born and raised in Michigan, we met years ago while working at the same library and quickly realized that we both were writers of speculative fiction. On slow nights and long weekends, we’d spend time discussing writing ideas. One day we started joking about the idea of a demon hunter who was married to a vampire but was too stupid to realize it - and Whit was born. After years of writing, cross-country moves, and major job changes, "The Beginning of Whit" is finally ready and we have made the decision to try self-publishing (because really, who needs free time).
And that's where you come in!
It’s not just about the ebook, we want to be able to print and distribute physical copies of the book to both readers and (if they will take them) libraries. In order to print books, you need moolah. We also want to put our best foot forward, so in addition to editing costs, we are looking into hiring an actual artist for the cover art on the printed edition of the book. Lastly, in this day and age you’ve got to market online, but not all marketing is free. To make this book a success we want to focus our marketing into larger markets and that can cost a pretty penny or two.

Money above and beyond our goal will result in more amazingness (that’s a word right?). More money = more funds to print books = more donations of books to libraries! More money = more potential for artwork within the book (who wouldn’t love seeing some of these fantastical scenes come to life?) Okay, so here's some specifics we've drawn up:
@3k: Button Maker Achieved. Promo buttons for the next book (partial plot reveal) will be made and distributed to all persons who pledge $15 and up.
@4k: Audio Book Explosion! For those that are too lazy to read the actual text, or want to follow along while listening to Andrew’s sultry voice. All levels will have access to this audio book (to be distributed via the internets - not a hard copy disk).
@5k: Donation bonanza! We will donate books across the U.S. We already want to donate books to the libraries near us, but what about your library, would they want a copy too? If you want your library on the list have them contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
@6k: A Three Part Party! First - More book donations! Second - Audio book with more than one voice actor (sorry Andrew will have to work with someone else on this). Third - two alternate book covers for the physical book (because we love cover art and supporting indie artists)!
@7k: Through the Looking Glass! Let's see these characters come to life. At this level we will have an illustrator create renditions of several main characters and print a special edition copy of the book with these illustrations included. This special edition copy will also include several thank you pages where all backers of this project will be listed.
@8k: T-shirt Treasure Trove! We're excited about a variety of logos for our t-shirts and a variety of styles of shirt. At this amazing level we will create some new custom shirts and award one of them to all individuals at the $25 donation level and up (that means those of you at $75 and up will receive the original shirt intended for your chosen track and an addition t-shirt of a different design).
@9k: Magical Realness! I will buy a unicorn (they go for about this price right?) Honestly, it would be very magical (just like a unicorn) to reach this price, so at this time I don’t know how we could repay the awesomeness of all these donations but I’ll think of something if we get anywhere near this mark.

Risks and challenges
Working with artists on cover art is the main thing that might effect completing the project in a timely fashion but we are working on finding artists now to hopefully avoid any delays due to artwork.
Also, if some of our stretch goals are met that require extra work, that might delay the distribution of prizes (if the goals contained prizes for backers).Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
