The MakePad story began with one simple mission - to make code learning possible for everyone. Inspired by experienced-based learning and the 'maker culture' (i.e. a movement which encourages a DIY approach to designing, creating and learning), today we're finally ready to share with you an innovative DIY tablet, designed to teach and entertain on- and off- line.
MakePad allows kids to learn to code, create digital music, develop games, apps, and more. Use the components to build this tablet from scratch!

After an extensive market research we felt that the currently available products were not up to scratch in one or more of the following three areas: ease of use, affordability and accessibility. Our goal was to bring all these aspects together in one outstanding piece of interactive technology.
Many parents and educators feel anxious about how to teach coding to their kids: it may be because they feel a high degree of specialist technical knowledge is required or they simply don’t know where to start. MakePad allays these anxieties by bringing cool and engaging lessons with nice storytelling that guide kids (as well as adults) through the complexities of coding.
Thanks to the MakePad’s embedded applications, there is no need for Internet access to use it (making it a perfect educational tool for schools in developing areas with poor or non-existent internet connection). Furthermore, the OS is available in English, Spanish and Portuguese, thus broadening its scope to include kids who may not have English as their first language.
MakePad can be assembled and used following a few, simple instructions. As we believe that technology connects people we would recommend making it a family project. The more the merrier!

MakeOS is the first Raspberry Pi Operation System designed for STEM learning on a touch screen device. It was thought to be simple and intuitive for kids of the touch-screen generation. All the applications are organized by subject and placed into Planets. MakeOs also comes with two applications developed by MakePi:
MakeMods is where kids learn how to code by creating modifications in their world of Minecraft. They can access the app and find a console for programming in Blockly - a visual language that works like a puzzle. Instead of traditional, text based programming, block based coding involves dragging “blocks” of instructions, making it easier for kids to match coding commands. They can simply try some blocks out and see what happens!
Once your little one feels confident enough using Blockly he or she can start writing their own programs in Python (an interpreted high-level programming language).
With MakeMusic kids learn how coding can be used in art. Using the Blockly language, they can compose digital music by dragging and dropping coding blocks (just like when doing a puzzle) and combine tones, notes, chords, intervals, repetitions, pauses, and everything that 'makes' music. They also can see how their Blockly code would translate in Ruby (a dynamic, reflective, object-oriented, general-purpose programming language).
