About this project
Project 12: A Compilation of Humanity
Tell me your story. Too often we read the stories of the famed and fortunate, the not so common commonfolk. I dared to challenge common people to tell me their common stories. I’ve found that in 365 days, just one of those days can change the entire course or perspective of a lifetime.
My journey to divulge in this realization began in 2008, shortly after I moved from my hometown, Chesapeake, VA. Throughout my travels, I had the privilege to meet some of the most fascinating people. As true as all commonfolk, these people included inventors, soldiers, survivors, the homeless, and even a hot-dog stand owner. They only confirmed my belief, that while celebrities held the spotlight, us “everyday” people stole the show. Since then, I purchased a notepad, a tape recorder, and began to document these stories and quotes in hopes to one day present them to the world. While doing so, I came across graphic artist, Marcus Kiser, who began to create amazing illustrations inspired by my collections. After compiling stories from roughly 200 people, I began to search out investors and donors but have been unable to gather a sufficient budget to complete the project in full.
Now, I present my project to you. I have collected 315 stories and endeavor to publish these vignettes to be shared by all us commonfolk. To complete the collection, 50 interviews have been reserved for those who donate the required amount. Varying donation levels will also include a reward of illustrations from Marcus Kiser. All proceeds will be used in the production of the first edition of the book. A Compilation of Humanity, Project 12.
If it is anything that I've learned about publishing is that IT IS NOT CHEAP; especially if you are printing over 200 pages in full color. I'm a strong believer of the phrase "you get what you pay for" so I've chosen a book manufacturer that produces the highest quality prints available on the market. With detailed graphics and images throughout the book, it would only be just if you as the reader were to experience Project 12 at a peak level of quality.
What's in it for you?
I've included some awesome incentives to get things started. A catalog of available prints will be emailed to all the donors upon reaching the goal so that you may choose which print(s) you would like to receive. If the goal is exceeded I will include more incentives for everyone...this is not about financial gain, rather creating something meaningful and an enjoyable Kickstarter experience.
Here is the section of the book that is all about you, THE MARVELOUS, MAGNIFICENT, BEAUTIFUL, AWESOME, EPIC, WONDERFUL DONORS! You may include any name you'd like whether its your real name, gamertag, twitter name, etc...however you wish to be recognized.
Beyond the book...
Once the $5000 goal is met, not only will I do back-flips but I will also donate $2 for every $5 to the WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT & AUTISM SPEAKS.
Here are some samples of art created by Marcus Kiser that will be featured in the book as well as included in the incentives:
