The Cocktail Reality
It’s past time for Prepared Cocktails to be taken as seriously as other “craft” beverages. Not everyone has time to become a master mixologist and prepare fresh squeezed cocktails every time they want to enjoy an adult beverage. And settling for a bottle filled with artificial ingredients, cheap sweeteners, preservatives and food coloring just to avoid making them yourself should not be your only option!
Well… it’s no longer your only option!
Step aside big boys and take your glow in the dark cocktails with you… there is a new movement of Small Batch Craft Cocktails that are ready to take it from here!
Belles Organics is pioneering the movement of Craft Cocktails… a new category all its own!
Because we believe that, “Convenience Should Never Require Compromise!”
Time to Take it 1 Step Further
Bottom line, the Craft Cocktail segment offers big promise as a paradigm shift is occurring in all other areas of craft beverages… but… we have to treat the category with the same level of presence and dedication as other crafters receive.
If the category wants to be taken seriously as a real category worthy of respect in the industry… then we have to take the “presentation” of our craft more seriously!
It's time to build Craft Cocktails their own stage so that customers will have a place to taste and "experience" the Brand in its own environment!
Enjoying a cocktail is an experience and every brand has its story. Stories are best told in a setting relevant to the plot and the characters. Other adult beverage categories each have their own way of creating that “brand experience” for their customers, which has drawn generations of thirsty travelers to personally visit some brands for centuries.
Belles wants to open the 1st official home for Craft Cocktails that offers a full “brand experience” that is completely relevant and unique to our Brand.
Traditional Approaches to the Prepared Cocktail Category
Traditionally, the Prepared Cocktail a.k.a. Ready to Drink “RTD” category, has been viewed as a category that simply serves as an extension of a big distilled spirit brand.
~ An extension that has traditionally received little priority and focus in regards to the quality of the liquid inside and the customer’s actual experience.
In fact, most large distilleries that offer a branded RTD product line wouldn’t dare serve one at their distillery’s regularly toured tasting room because they know it’s a poor representation of their brand. The RTD products are merely an afterthought for the industry’s largest brands. This is evident in the declining sales and continued frustration within the RTD segment.
In fact, case sales in the RTD category were down in 2013 for their 5th consecutive year and continuing to further decline throughout this year. Hence the need and opportunity for a new approach!
But not just a new product, a new focus… A real focus on the category is necessary as it can no longer be treated as an afterthought.
A Look at the Craft Movement in Distilled Spirits & Beer Provides Guidance
While of course the major suppliers have resources beyond that of any craft brand, so competing toe to toe based on market spending, free cases, feet on the street, major ad campaigns, etc. is virtually impossible. However, the craft brands have been able to secure significant growing market share by offering what the big suppliers will never have, “something real” and that goes beyond a product label defined to attract a certain audience but has no actual relation to the actual product or its creator. Craftsmen place a lot more focus on “crafting” the actual product rather than how to spin it to the target audience. This authenticity has been well received by consumers as the trends prove:
While we’ve seen massive growth in the number of craft distilleries and craft breweries in recent years as shown in the graphs above, the “Craft Cocktail” category is brand new and virtually untapped.
Belles Organics Launches Craft Cocktails
We are very dedicated to providing a high quality responsibly manufactured Craft Cocktail that tastes great if you simply give it a really good shake, twist the top, and pour over ice! Creating our Cocktails organically wasn't even a second thought as that's all we'd serve our guests!
Belles has received 16 awards from leading tasting competitions for superior quality, taste, value of the Cocktails and 5 awards for its innovative packaging.
Understanding that some people do want to add some extra frills to our Craft Cocktail offering, we made them to work incredibly well as an organic "Craft Cocktail Base" to other very creative mixologist creations. In fact, we are launching the Recipe and Restaurant section of our website soon. The Belles Cocktails are very versatile and can be enjoyed simply or well decorated.
Tasting Rooms are Proven to be Key
As noted by Jason Daley’s article cited above, there is a strong growth in the number of craft distillery tasting rooms and gift shops opening to draw in tourists (much like the growth of the micropubs in the craft brewery segment). The craft brands are proving they are worthwhile competitors to the big brands and they are gaining market share by sharing their story and providing their customers an authentic experience.
Tasting Rooms, Copper Tube Chasing, & Pub Perching offers the Experience the Goers Desire for those “Other” Beverage Categories
But Cocktails are Certainly Worthy of their Own Accommodations...
The Craft Cocktail Encounter
Belles is committed to providing a full "experience" filled with our Award Winning Organic Craft Cocktails, mixology experiences, and more...
Timeless Design for an Unforgettable Experience
Belles will build out a full 1930's Jazz Cabaret Dinner Theatre that offers the "full lifestyle experience" to its guests. The authenticity is key to our design and planning, we are not looking to build out some cheesy "theme park" gimmick that will be exciting for only one visit. We hope to create sustainable jobs for our entire crew, their families and others in the community and that requires building a business plan with real staying power. We will make sure to always consider relevancy and adopt a timeless approach with a design that will take your breath away and make you never want to leave!
Even our powder rooms will include the full Belles Experience, complete with hand crafted vanities for our guests to touch up their lipstick!
The Food & Craft Cocktails
~ Superior Commitment to Health of Patrons & Eco Responsibility
Do NO HARM is our key motto... which means we worry about the health of our guests and the safety of our earth!
Another key focus is to set a new standard for how food should be prepared and served to patrons. Unlike typical other themed creations, we are not making bar food and over priced appetizers that we thaw out first, after all there is enough of those joints in the market already. We are sticking to the same practices we use at home, using as many fresh organic ingredients as possible, sourcing locally grown whenever we can, and prepared with cutting edge green energy and "clean" cooking equipment to lock in as many nutrients as possible. In our opinion, that's how food service show have always been done, we would never sacrifice the health of our guests by serving them dishes and Belles Cocktails that are more designed for our profits rather than their bodies!
Our Dinner Theatre will feature our Official Belles performing live on the stage night after night with our full "Big Band" The Shimmies. Our team is led by a very well equipped and classically trained Jazz Musician and Musical Theatre extraordinaire, Danii! We will keep our shows fresh, entertaining, high quality, and true to the era night after night!
The Belles won't be the only ones dancing... what good is a Jazz Club if you can't Shimmy??? We are committed to bringing in Swing Dancers nightly to turn up the energy and pull our Craft Cocktail lovers out of their chairs!
The Dinner Theatre and tasting room will offer visitors additional Belles products and creations so they can take the lifestyle home. While selling merchandise is something most establishments customarily do, we are very socially conscious about making these keepsakes available to our patrons. This will not be an tchotchke shop of logo items! The merchandise will reflect the same values and craftsmanship principals as all of the other aspects of our operation.
Budget & Use of Funds
Of course the final build out of the Belles Dinner Theatre and tasting room will cost a significant amount of money, much greater than the $50,000 we are trying to raise with this campaign. We expect that money will come from a variety of sources, which may include any extra money raised during this campaign. It is critical that Belles partner with experienced restaurant and "eatertainment" styled venue operators when it sets out on this venture as this concept is too important to take chances with an inexperienced team. Therefore, Belles will seek the "right" strategic investment partners that are well seasoned in this specific niche and can offer both capital as well as additional management and advisement.
We need to raise $50,000 from this campaign in order to put together a professionally drafted business plan and concept presentation in order to meet with qualified investors for this project. The $50,000 will be used to:
Any additional capital we are fortunate enough to raise beyond the $50,000 will be used towards the build out of the finished project as we would certainly be in a better negotiating position if we had some of our own capital to put towards the venture. Being in this position to fund any part of this ourselves would be a dream come true.
There is No Better Pioneer to Kick Off the Category Right
As a Family Owned & Operated Brand, Belles offers all the right makings for an American Success Story. Daniel and I created the Brand’s imagery and styling as an expression of who we are. We are that old fashioned duo that believes “if you can’t buy it, make it” and if you “make it, make it right!” We are both Southern born and bred that grew up having to be very handy, creative, and hard working. The key to success in this movement is rooted in "authenticity" and our Brand makes the cut.
The Man Behind the Brand
The "Man in the Robe"
Nate Dorn is half of the very talented Dorn Brothers Photography Co. out of Atlanta, GA. After hiring Nate as a photographer/videographer for a few of our media releases we knew he understood our concept and the potential in it. Nate’s artistic eye and quirky personality made us fall in love with him. Since he fit right in it didn’t take us long to ask him to become a permanent part of our team. Nate has helped put our entire Kickstarter Campaign together and there is no way we could have done it without him!
Nate, you make this all possible! Thank you for capturing our moments!
Risks and challenges
We've learned a lot since starting this venture back in January 2012... and of all those lessons and experiences there has been 1 very consistent theme... "Nothing goes as planned!" So, while we'd like to think we can pull this together without any major hiccups, we are well versed in the art of problem solving.
To avoid unexpected surprises and costly delays, Daniel and I made sure to partner with the right industry veterans before starting this project. However, even with the right team, concerns can arise:
1. The Project Costs May Increase
The budgeted amount to prepare the full business plan and package the presentation is based on an estimate of various seasoned professionals’ time and expenses. However, the additional costs to attend the investor presentations, host investor meetings, and print extra copies of materials, could increase over the course of the project. The estimation included in the project may not be sufficient if there is a substantial increase in the number of investor meetings that require travel arrangements, which could be a result of presentations to additional investors or additional meetings to secure arrangement with a set of investors.
The team pre-qualify potential investors as best as possible early on during the business plan drafting process and prior to making travel arrangements to avoid spending time and resources on unlikely candidates.
If this becomes a concern, we will attempt to manage costs by suggesting as many follow up meetings as reasonable be held by conference call or videoconference (based on the topics of discussion). Initial presentations and most financial arrangement discussions are customarily conducted face to face; however, many conversations in between can be held via phone.
2. Time & Resource Requirements May Increase
Potential investors may require additional research and information beyond what was included in the business plan presentation as conversations get underway. Gathering that additional information could require additional time, data and resources that were not expected during the onset of the project. This could cause time delays and increase costs to satisfy the potential investors.
The team managing this project has been doing this for a long time and it is unlikely that additional data and research will be required by an investor beyond what they are including in the presentation. However, the investor may require additional location considerations and comparisons, which could require more travel to the area and may increase costs and time.
3. The Opening of the Establishment May be Delayed
The goal is to launch the tasting room during the busy tourist season, which occurs between the months of March and October. In order to make the most of the upcoming season, Belles would like to open no later than July 2015. If securing the right investor(s), the right venue, or the building permits takes longer than anticipated, it is possible the project could be delayed opening until March 2016.
The team is anxiously waiting to begin their work on the business plan and that process will take approximately 60 days to complete once they get started. During that time, they will prepare a short overview to use to notify prospective investors of the pending project and gauge their interest. Investor presentations will be scheduled to begin occurring the week immediately following the completion of the plan and presentation to avoid potential delays.
Restaurant industry veterans are well versed in the timing of such an opening, especially in a tourist driven location. Qualified prospective investors will understand the need to accelerate their decision making process.
4. Finished Business Plan May Not Find Investors
There is always the chance that even with the right team, the right plan, and a good pool of potential investors that the Dinner Theatre concept may not secure investment to move forward on a timely basis. No plan is guaranteed.
However, Belles has put together a team of very seasoned restaurateurs with strong industry reputations and proven track records, specifically in the niche space of “themed” restaurants. This team has access to qualified restaurant investors who are already familiar with the professionals involved and they are actively in search of new innovative concepts.
In addition to the unique theme Belles is proposing, the commitment to utilizing cutting edge green energy and “clean” cooking equipment throughout the build out will also be a very unique innovation. This commitment and the focus on using only organic and honestly clean ingredients provides for healthier and better quality foods packed with nutrition, which is a much different concept than traditional “themed” restaurant conglomerates adopt.
Belles will post regular updates of the status of the project, the milestones we've conquered, the hurdles we are facing, and where we are in reference to our schedule to keep Backers informed on a timely basis.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
