We are a two man team of brothers who started developing The Adventures of Sullivan in September 2017. We grew up playing some of the world's most iconic 2D games ever made. Some of our best memories are in front of a screen, endlessly playing Nintendo, Game Boy and several other consoles, often to the great despair of our parents who would have preferred we spent more time outside.
Ever since those days, weeks, months, and years of staring awe-struck into a world of pixels, we have wanted to create our own video games, and evoke the same feelings in others who share our love and respect for the experiences video games give us. The Adventures of Sullivan is our first project, and we hope there will be many more to come.
The Adventures of Sullivan is an arcade styled, 2D run and gun side-scroller, set in a science fiction world with pixel graphics. To help this project come to life as organically as possible, everything in Sullivan has been created from scratch. All of our code, artwork, levels and music are being created and designed from the ground up, to create a nostalgic experience, mixed with modern gaming elements, to deliver fluid and entertaining game play.
Beyond profits and paychecks, we believe games should be fun. We also believe games should be accessible, and affordable; You won't need high-end hardware to run Sullivan, or any of our other future games. We will never include microtransactions in our projects, and we also aim to price our games at a very modest rate.
Sullivan will be priced at only $5 on Steam, with plans to release on three other digital platforms (The deluxe version will be $10 and will include a digital soundtrack). We aren't chasing dollar signs, we're chasing a vision.
When we set out to make a game, we were inspired by the classic shoot ’em ups and side-scrollers of the 80s and 90s. Games kids would play right after getting home from school. Games that made car rides infinitely shorter. Games that defined the 2D genre and will never be forgotten. That meant making a simplistic, straightforward shooter with tight mechanics and fast, fun game play.
We also wanted it to feel like an arcade experience, putting a quarter into a machine, and seeing how long you could survive, what level you could make it to, and how many enemies you could defeat along the way. This is also shown in our art style, which is an intentionally chosen, smaller resolution. Instead of hyper detailed, fine pixels, we prefer the larger, blocky pixels that really throw you back in time.
With the creation of The Adventures of Sullivan, we are launching our own company with the hopes of making a name for ourselves in the indie gaming world.
We are Bumper Car Studios
You play as Sullivan, a famous, and now retired bounty hunter, known for moon walking while fighting, defying laws of physics with fancy jump moves and air slides, and never backing down from an adversary. Our story begins when you are on your way to get a hamburger from a hip, local space pub, with your beloved cat, Claude Arthur Thatchmoore (C.A.T. for short). You are enjoying retirement, when something unthinkable happens. Henchmen of the feared and powerful cyborg bat pirates steal C.A.T. in an attempt to please their leader, who is fond of collecting all things cute and furry. Sullivan has no choice but to lay chase, and destroy anything in his way to get back his trusty sidekick, and friend.

Due to the demands of life, balancing work and family, and the cost behind everything that goes into creating a game, we could use some help from the community!
By funding this project, you would allow us to devote more time, energy, and money to make Sullivan bigger, better, and released sooner (or at all!), as well as making it easier on us to focus on making a game you will love and enjoy.
Not only will funds go towards hardware costs, software costs, production costs, publishing fees, licensing, trademark and copyright fees, as well as marketing and advertising... You will also be feeding us! We aren't a large corporation with PR teams and endless dollars to spend. We're just two guys! Everything so far has been paid out of our own pockets. We believe in Sullivan.
You would also be taking part in funding a dream. To be able to give this project what it deserves and release this game would be an absolute dream come true. We would be forever thankful, and forever humbled for your help.
We are seeking $6000 to help pay for the costs listed above. If our Kickstarter is successful, we would be able to aim for a release in May/June of 2019.
We have two stretch goals we would love to hit:
- If we reach a funding total of over $10,000, we will also release The Adventures of Sullivan to Macintosh users.
- If we reach a funding total of over $15,000, we will add an 8th level to the game! Which means an entirely different environment to explore, several more completely new, and unique enemies, another level specific song that will be included in the soundtrack, and another boss to encounter and defeat!
Risks and challenges
"A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad."
- Shigeru Miyamoto (creator of Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong)
We don't want to cut corners, take shortcuts, or deliver an experience we aren't proud of. From day one, we wanted to make a game that not only appealed to others, but appealed to us as well. Our biggest challenges are time and money.
With your help, we will be able to overcome financial challenges, and circumstances affecting how much time we can devote towards making this project come to life. With the help of crowdfunding via Kickstarter, we would be able to aim for a release in May/June of 2019. Without the help of Kickstarter, we could be delayed to Winter 2019 or further, due to our budget and time constraints.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
