We're asking for your help to release our new album 'Cycle' into the world. This will be our long awaited third album as a band (if you're new to us, let us introduce ourselves - www.ladymaisery.com) and it's an album that we are especially proud of.
Cycle is an album all about life's journey. We have been inspired to create an album of new songs and newly imagined old songs, which together tell stories of life’s different paths and stages, it’s challenges, it’s losses, it's celebrations and it’s ever returning seasons.
We have aimed, with this album, to capture the raw energy of our live performances. As such, a lot of the music has been recorded as 'live' as possible and we have tried to keep a rawness and a closeness to the sound. We hope it will sound as if we are singing in the room with you!
As well as our trademark unaccompanied close harmony songs, we have experimented with creating a full band sound on this album and believe it's the richest and musically most ambitious album we've made so far. 'Cycle' also cements our growing reputation as award winning songwriters and composers, with many self penned songs. A short song-cycle of seasonal pieces punctuates the album, each recorded a little differently, alongside the sounds of the world around us - birds, leaves, wind and sea. It's been three years since we released our last album 'Mayday' and in that time we have all grown such a lot as musicians and performers, together and apart. We've definitely channelled some of the amazing experiences and learning curves of the last few years into this new record.
Our band Lady Maisery has been going for 7 years now. We love every minute of it and feel very lucky and privileged to work on the UK folk scene which is full of extraordinarily kind and supportive people. So - thank you to everyone who continues to support us by coming to shows, buying albums and getting in touch to show their appreciation. A a BIG thank you to everyone who can support our campaign to release 'Cycle' - we really can't wait to send you a copy!
Risks and challenges
Albums are expensive things to make, which is always a risk and a challenge as professional musicians. And making albums in the folk scene, as ever, mostly relies on us selling physical copies to you - at gigs, or online or in your local record shop. This campaign bridges a gap for us and is basically a way of us fast-tracking that process, so that we have enough financial capital to actually make and print the CDs and get them to you - and you also get the album as soon as it's ready rather than having to wait for the official release.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
