Now in its 6th year, MashUp Contemporary Dance Company and our squad of powerful and versatile female dancers have successfully produced five full length shows in LA and other major cities around the US including New York City, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. MashUp’s last production, The Art of Geometry, featured a partnership and interactive set design with acclaimed artist Tanya Aguiñiga, whose work can be seen in major galleries and hotels across the country. This season, MashUp is enthralled with the idea of presenting an incredibly meaningful work that focuses heavily on the conversation about gender equality. NOW is the time to become a partner with MashUp and to contribute to this important dialogue.
What are traditional gender roles and feminine traits? As modern women, which of these do we connect to and which do we not? How does this knowledge of who we are contribute to the conversation about equality between men and women?
Intrinsic Motivation focuses on exploring our position as women in a modern society. We will be using our space and dancers to their fullest potential as we analyze the complexity of a woman’s function and redefine traditional gender roles. Follow nine women as they journey through this labyrinth of self exploration, and gain a sense of empowerment that contributes to the conversation of gender equality.
We are lucky enough to present this production in our new space, which means we have the freedom to explore every possibility available to REALLY make this vision and thought provoking work come to life. But like any production, we need the funds to make it happen. Your money will go directly to the artists, costumes, set design, lighting, documentation and marketing needs to make this a successful show and help keep the idea of gender equality on our community’s radar.
Don't miss Intrinsic Motivation premiering July 16, 17, and July 23, 24 at our new space in the "Frogtown" neighborhood of Los Angeles.
Risks and challenges
As a non-profit organization that has been active for the past 6 years, there has always been a challenge with ensuring that new and innovative works receive the proper budget for MashUp to continue to sustain as part of Los Angeles' rich and diverse culture.
Since MashUp is already well underway in our research and rehearsal process, if this project does not get funded, it will not come to fruition and all of our hard work will not be seen the way it truly should be. MashUp has the groundwork laid and the passion to push forward with a topic that we are all affected by and enthusiastic about in talking with our community about.
