What is a prototype?

A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

Proof of Concept

Explorations that test ideas and functionality.

Functional Prototype

Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.

Appearance Prototype

Looks like the final product, but is not functional.

Design Prototype

Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.

Production Prototype

Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.

Plastic bags are consistently one of the top 10 polluters of our oceans and waterways*. Our bags help sustainably collect, carry, and store produce and bulk foods without needing a separate plastic produce bag.

Simple goodness is sewn in at every step. We are only using organic eco fabrics, and are collaborating with a fair-trade factory that employs Americans with Disabilities. In addition to this, we are creating a solution to reduce ocean waste and give back part of our profits to help feed and support our community. We believe your bags should be great for you and the world.

Green Upward

We make good bags that do good.

 Supporting Our Community with Arcadia

2% of the pledge of each bag will be donated to supporting the Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food and Agriculture. Arcadia works to create a more equitable, sustainable local food system. It grows food on a regenerative farm; trains military veterans to be farmers; uses the farm as a schoolroom to teach children about agriculture and healthy eating; and harvests the food for sale on Arcadia's mobile markets. The Mobile Markets dismantle barriers to access by selling wholesome, locally grown foods in neighborhoods that lack access at discounted rates. See more at arcadiafood.org/

Risks and challenges

Developing any new product comes with its risks and challenges. There are many steps to bring Green Upward Market and Storage bags to life, the largest is raising the necessary funds. I am very grateful to the Kickstarter community for helping me overcome this first hurdle. Moving forward, these are the steps that will need to be taken:

• Ordering bulk organic materials – The materials that will be used in the bag have already been certified GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard). I have developed a strong relationship with the materials suppliers, and have received and tested the fabrics that will be used for the bag. There is a small risk that material shipping will be delayed, but I hope to mitigate this with good communication and proper ordering times.

• Manufacturing the bag – I have developed a good relationship with the facility that will sew the bags in southern Virginia, USA. Together we developed a prototype that executed the Green Upward vision of durability, functionality, and elegance. We will now work together to collect the assets and information needed to bring the bag into full production mode.

• Shipping the final product.

I look forward to overcoming these next challenges, and am committed to bringing the Market & Storage bags to the market, and my backers. I believe the current bags are the best proof of that. Thank you so much for your consideration and help!
