My name is William R Ponsot, and I am the blogger at www.AstoriaHD.blogspot.com. Since March of 2012 this blog is the home base and launch pad for all of my cycling film projects (documentary/raw footage), panoramic photography, and experiential ride journalism, as well as some local cycling related news.
I have intentionally left all advertising out of my videos and webpage and plan to release my video projects on a "pay what you like" streaming or download format.
I am seeking the necessary funds to complete my first documentary film. The films title "Bike your city", is the core message of the project. I hope to encourage people to explore the limits of their village, town, or city, by showing them what I have discovered in my travels around New York in 2012.
Also, this Fall I am visiting with my uncle in Germany who is a cyclist as well, and will be filming my rides in Europe, and will include some of that footage in Bike Your City.
I have gathered many 100's of hours of HD video exploring alone, including a solo cyclotouring trip 80 miles to Clarence Fahnestock Park, with all of my gear including shelter strapped to my back.
I have also participated in a number of organized rides, large and small like the 5 Boro Bike Tour (my first organized ride, 35k participants!), The Ride to Montauk (my first Century ride), and the Ride of Silence (advocacy ride).
I have created an Astoria HD 2013 Calendar from some of my favorite panoramic views captured while filming Bike Your City. This way you can enjoy some of the views featured in the film while you count the days until it's release.
Due to video file size limitations on the Kickstarter page I have uploaded a full 10 minute Kickstarter promo video to youtube. All of my videos are shot in full 1080p, and I encourage you to enjoy them at the highest quality possible.
Once I have the funding I need to complete Bike Your City the first major challenges will be the long editing process, scoring, as well as potential voice overs. Next I will need some graphic design for all aspects of the project including some branding and local and web based advertising, and a digital distribution vender. Once I finally have the completed project in hand I would then offer it to local cycling advocacy groups as a promotional tool to help grow the positive image of cycling in New York, as well as enter my film into New York film festivals. My biggest risk in this project is personal. I have invested much of my own time and money into getting this started, but with the validation of cloud funding projects like Bike your city can find the courage and resources needed to come to fruition.
