AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT...
Crossover Miniatures has created a number of retro-scifi figures and we need your help to bring them to market! Check out our pitch below and if it sounds good, come along on a crazy ride with us!
What We Do Best
Crossover Miniatures is dedicated to producing cool miniatures that are very easy to paint. We think you should be able to paint them quickly and get them on the table rather than stored in a drawer.
We've created a large number of miniatures to flesh out a world where Grey Aliens have invaded the Earth and a small but determined force of humans have resisted. Check out the miniatures below.
The Grey Aliens are ready to help you launch an invasion. They come in sets of 5 and are just shorter than your average man.
Grey Assault Disk
This is our first resin vehicle and we're quite proud of it. Back up for the Grey ground troops comes in the form of an Assault Disk. The body will be resin and the crew and heavy gun will be in white metal.
Sometimes you need a little muscle, and these are the guys the Grey Aliens bring along when it's needed. Big, strong aliens with tough hide. These guys have already been turned into metal masters.
They come in a few different pieces, each of four alien bodies and four sets of arms for mix and match fun and variety.
These are some big lads and it takes quite a lot of metal to cast them.
The U.F.O. Squads
These are the humans traveling around the Earth taking the fight to the aliens. Women and men have answered the call and are represented in equal numbers in the U.F.O. Squads.
Each of the human troops will come with three heads: a helmet, a beret head, and a tactical headgear head. Some pictures show the models with the extra heads attached. When you get them, you can choose which one you want and easily attach them for variety.
We're still waiting on a few pictures of the female heads, but the bodies are ready to go.
An important part of the U.F.O. Squad skirmish rules is hidden alien movement. These clear acrylic counters help make that possible. Each Alien model is represented by two 'ghost counters' and they are revealed during game play. Once revealed, you have to remove the counter or replace it with an Alien model. The Ghost Counters come in sets of 30, which should be enough for most regular sized games.
The U.F.O. Squads are taken to the battlefield in VU-27 HURON Dropships. These were created to fulfill a game role, be affordable, and look as nice as possible in the meantime. They are created out of laser cut MDF and can fit an assault chalk of models inside them.
Our Aliens are just shorter than our humans because we felt that's the way it should be. We are shooting for 'heroic 28mm' for our humans.
The Huron Dropship is a real monster. It's designed to hold quite a few troops inside and be a functional piece of gaming equipment.
A Cool Set of Skirmish Rules to Go With Them
I've licensed the Song of... rules form Ganesha Games and added some cool features to enable you to play a skirmish campaign game. I've poured a lot of effort into creating a quick, fun set of rules.
The game is designed to give fast, fun battles first and foremost. Combat is resolved with a singe opposed die roll, the results give you everything to resolve the situation right then. Tension is built into the activation system and keeps both players continuously engaged. Once the battle is over it's time to pour over the charts and tables.
The campaign system is the heart of these rules. You are given a starting command of 8 men to defend the Earth against the alien incursion. Each player runs their own team of humans, keeps track of their advances, resupplies the force between games, and watches them mature during the campaign. You will play the alien opponents when the other players are running their human force.
We have a great system where you play fast-play rules for the battle and then settle in afterwards to spend your Resource Points on tech and supply advances and to see if your team has improved due to your actions in the game.
It's pretty fun to play the aliens too! Conserving your forces isn't a concern, you can just throw caution to the wind and attack! Each alien advances under cover and the Humans never know where you will show up. You will also get to choose your Alien forces from a wide variety of units and variants to keep things interesting.
The rules are written and I will be formatting them during the next month or two. Once you back the KickStarter at a level that includes the rules you'll get access to a (really) rough draft of the rules that have been formatted, just message me and I'll send you a link. Here is an idea of what the finished product will look like.
These rules represent my idea of a fun game. If you are looking for a fun romp while defending the Earth from hoards of Grey Aliens, they might be what you are looking for.
They have not been play tested by a group of international gamers, they have not been designed to give fair results in a tournament environment. They may be abused by a player who wants to exploit loopholes.
If you think $6 is too much to spend on rules like this, this likely isn't the KickStarter for you.
Share the Project for an Alien or Two?
I'd love your help to get the word out! Just link to this project on FB and tag Crossover Miniatures (so I can see it) and I'll throw an extra Alien in your reward. Got a blog? Post a blog post about the project and I'll add an Alien as well! Share as much as you like, but I have to cap the bonus at two Aliens.
If you like what you see, become part of this awesome project and become a backer!
Risks and challenges
I have the greens created and in doing so, I’ve spent EVERY penny I have available for the project. Once this campaign is finished I will use the tried and tested system of production that I have used for my past three projects. I have reliable artisans waiting to complete the work when I give them the go ahead.
I plan to be able to ship the models within 8 weeks of finishing, but I’m going to say 12 weeks just to make sure that I can deliver. I’m personally hoping for 4-5 weeks this time though!
Every project has some element of risk. We have done everything in our power to minimize this risk, and we've used what we learned the last four times to reduce that even further. During our first two projects we experienced an average delay of four days and our third and fourth projects were completed early!
So what you've got now is an experienced team that has produced miniatures through a Kickstarter project four times before, ready to do it again. We have a lot of happy backers and we can't wait to make more people happy this time.
The sculpting is done, we've lined up the best molding and casting firm in the U.S., and we have lots of experience in fulfillment. Back this project knowing you have an experienced and reliable team bringing you a fun reward!
The only unknown is the time things spend in customs, and we'll build a reasonable amount of time into the fulfillment date.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
