Thank you for checking out our children's book, Keep Walking. This is a book that teaches children to NEVER GIVE UP.
This book was written in honor of our late friend and family member, Kamil Patel, who was tragically killed in an act of random violence in late January 2018. Patel's last words before he was shot and killed, were "keep walking."
Kamil had just moved from Dallas to Miami on January 8, 2018 to be the Operations Manager for Prada Bal Harbour. Prior to this, he worked for Louis Vuitton for six years in Dallas. He had just moved to Miami and was climbing the ranks in corporate retail. He had a successful and bright future ahead of him. His life was taken too soon.
This was devastating news to anyone who even remotely knew Kamil. Kamil was a Buffalo and Dallas native, was a 2006 Williamsville East High School graduate, a University at Buffalo alumnus, and a great friend to many people. He had a heart of gold, a huge bright contagious smile, and a great and goofy sense of humor. We will always remember Kamil's sense of humor and ginormous smile. He was such a unique and thoughtful person.
As his friend Katy Park perfectly stated, "He never met a stranger, went out of his way to help people, was an incredible, loyal friend, and loved his family more than anything or anyone."
A few weeks after Kamil passed away, his former teacher and mentor in high school, Marcus Miranda, shared that his wife, also a teacher, might be looking to do something with Kamil's last words, "keep walking." That's when the idea of making a children's book in his memory hit all of us. Working hard over the next 9 months, we all worked closely together, with the help of Kamil's brother, Dannish Patel, to bring this story to life.
The book is called, Keep Walking, and it is what Kamil would want all of us to do. The story itself follows the lives of a young girl and a young boy from birth to old age, as they grow up together and experience life's struggles and joys. The book begins by showing a young baby girl and a young baby boy struggling to walk - and it follows them as they grow up - ending with the struggles of old age. During the entire story, the reader will see all of life's "ups and downs" and how both the girl and boy "Keep Walking" with each tough situation that they experience. Each page ends with the phrase, "keep walking."
The story perfectly symbolizes the spirit Kamil had and we firmly believe that parents and children will love and relate to the story.
The story is told in rhyme, 32 pages, illustrated beautifully in watercolor, has 10 by 10 inch dimensions and will be printed in hardcover.
Thank you for your interest and we hope you help to bring this book to life, in honor of Kamil Patel.
WE LOVE YOU, KAMIL. YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
(The picture above is an index card that Kamil's family found in his childhood bedroom shortly after his death. Apparently, Kamil wrote "you never walk alone" years before he was killed. This index card photo will be imprinted into the book on the title page.)

Risks and challenges
There are minimal risks. We need to raise the $6,000 so we can publish, print, package, and ship the books out to the world. We have done this before (The Boy with the Rainbow Heart) and we know what is involved to be successful with a kickstarter.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
