At Carpathia Watch Company we relish the hands-on experience of creating something personal and designing a watch that outlives trends, one that can be handed down. We are an independent watch brand committed to the art of horology, hoping to bring our taste in timepieces to other passionate collectors.
With high quality materials, an authentic Swiss movement and hand assembly in Switzerland, you’ll be investing in a watch worth passing on. This is a Swiss made, automatic timepiece, influenced by our Polish-American heritage.
At the onset of design, we knew we wanted our watch to feel traditional but to reflect modern trends. Having collected watches my whole life, I knew what I normally look for; an excellent movement, a distinguishing factor, an interesting backstory. I loved traveling to Poland with my family, and bringing a rare watch back to Chicago, knowing no one else would have one quite like it. I wanted to convey that sense of rarity through my own watches as well.
I drew influences from those little known European watch brands I always collected, as well as high-end luxury watches. I worked together with my wife to pick finishes that reflected modern trends, and stood out. For our first model, we wanted to celebrate our hometown of Chicago, a diverse city that was built by immigrants, adorned with art deco details.
The Ascent is Carpathia's flagship model. We wanted to celebrate both our European and American backgrounds. My wife and I are both Polish-American, and we grew up in Chicago which has had a vast immigrant population since the late 19th century. Every culture has left its mark on this city. Even the art deco style that Chicago is known for actually originates in Europe. So while our company name comes from the Carpathian Mountains that traverse our back yard in Poland, our first watch is dedicated to the city that raised us.
For over a century, people have come to Chicago hoping to do better, to achieve more, and elevate their lives. In fact the premise behind art deco is power and progress; it is about making culture and high society accessible. To symbolize what we and other Chicagoans aspire to in life, we named our watch The Ascent.
The most important element to us is a high quality movement. We opted to use an ETA 2824-2 elabore with top grade finishes. Top grade finish means our movement is fully decorated with an engraved rotor, blued screws, and Geneva stripes. Our movement is beautifully displayed in an exhibition case back. The sapphire glass on both sides is anti-reflective coated. Cases are made of a 316L stainless steel plated in their respective finishes. The watch has a standard 5 atm water resistance.
Meant to be a versatile dress watch, the case is 42mm in diameter. The art deco influence can be seen in the exaggerated, curved case lugs as well as the oversized onion crown. The oversized logo and styling of the numerals and markers are also reminiscent of the art deco era. Our name, logo, and the Chicago inscription can be found on the dial. The case back will be engraved with the production number; a feature limited to our Kickstarter backers. (Our production models will read Swiss Made on the dial as well as on the case back as opposed to Swiss mvmt)

We began with just an idea and a few sketches. I had a lifelong passion for horology and a talent in design but no idea where to begin in building Carpathia.
Sourcing manufacturers and obtaining prototypes was a long process. To ensure the highest quality materials were being used, we traveled to Switzerland to meet our manufacturers and movement suppliers. Countless samples of cases, dials and hands were produced until the exact vision and quality were achieved.
While prototypes were hand assembled by me in Chicago, final production will be assembled by a highly qualified team in Switzerland. The watches will then be personally inspected in Chicago before being sent to you.
In order to make time for production and quality control, we estimate The Ascent to be ready by November 2019. We want to make sure you are getting the best possible watch. Should production move quicker or hit a roadblock, you will always be informed!
Carpathia watches offer a two year limited warranty which covers faulty workmanship under normal use of the product. In case of defects covered by the warranty, all components will be repaired or the watch will be replaced. Warranty pertains to watch function and components and does not extend to strap or buckle.
Carpathia watches can be shipped to all participating countries outlined in the selection options through kickstarter.
Please note that you are responsible for potential customs duties or other applicable taxes for your region, we will include an invoice with your item.
We hope to deliver all watches by November 2019. Be aware that this is an estimated delivery period which will depend on speed of manufacturing and potential setbacks. Actual delivery may be expedited or delayed, we will always be in touch regarding the process.
Risks and challenges
Sourcing elements from many manufacturers from abroad is alway a challenge, as is meeting minimum order requirements. Since this is a high quality watch with a reputable movement, it is quite expensive to produce. Being a regular working class couple, we do not have the funds necessary to purchase a large quantity of materials in order to launch our brand. Funding through a campaign such as kickstarter allows us to share our journey, involve you in the process of building Carpathia and to to provide funds that will allow us to make it all happen.
Finally, we are not immune to production setbacks and can not promise our manufacturers will adhere to our timeline. We can, however, assure you that we will be open and communicative about the development process so that you know where in production your watch is. Please always feel free to contact us directly. We deeply value your support!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
