We started with a fairly simple vision of transforming a tablet into a fully connected smart mirror. To accomplish that, we’ve built an amazing 3D printed backing to fit your iOS or Android tablet snugly behind our special two-way smart mirror glass. Your tablet can be put in almost any position behind the mirror, and because of a special finish on the high quality glass the display will always look crystal clear.
Future Home
You can't use a mirror like a tablet, who wants fingerprints all over their screens? Interaction at a distance is a must have, so Firefly uses cutting edge voice and gesture recognition plus Amazon Alexa integration.
By using the wake word "Firefly", you will be able to ask your mirror to show whatever you need such as
- "Firefly, set a 2 minute timer"
- "Firefly, what's the weather"
- "Firefly, call me an Uber"
- "Firefly, check the stocks"
- "Firefly, show me the news"
- "Firefly, take a selfie"
And it gets even better. Additional speech is forwarded to Amazon Alexa, giving you answers to almost any question you can think of as well as Alexa's library of apps.
Wake up on time and ready for the day
Firefly increases productivity and prepares you for the day with its alarm and daily summary features. Your alarm turns off when you're actually awake and out of bed. Plus you get a daily summary of weather, calendar, and reminders so you get a head start on the day. IFTTT triggers invoke custom wakeup routines so your smart home connected devices sound alarms and turn on lights in your room.
Just put in your tablet and Firefly is ready to go
We don't like products that require a ton of set up and hassle, we know you don't either. That's why with Firefly, you just open the app, put your tablet behind the mirror and enjoy.
No frame, no problem
Firefly is designed with beautiful machine polished edges which enable us to have no frame to obstruct the beautiful 26" x 16" mirror. We’ve gone through countless different glass types, finishes and suppliers to ensure that we’ve found the perfect way for you to see both yourself and your tablet's display.
Pushing the boundaries
Since the inception of Firefly, we have continued to push the boundaries of 3D printing. We set out to make a high quality backing at a great price and decided the only way to do that is with the magic of 3D printing.
We went ahead and actually hand built all of the 3D printers that the first Firefly prototypes were made on so they are designed especially to print our innovative backing which holds the tablet behind the mirror. This allows for us to make rapid changes in our designs and prototypes and ultimately will enable us to deliver a really fantastic product at a fraction of the price.

Innovative design helps keep Firefly crystal clear
We even make use of the air flow around the mirror which, combined with the heat from the tablet, allows us to keep your Firefly mirror display from getting foggy when you get out of the shower. We really did think about the details.
The Firefly App
The Firefly companion app which powers your smart mirror will be made available for iOS and Android in the coming months. It will be free as a standalone app, with premium features requiring a paid monthly subscription. However, any Kickstarter reward which includes the Firefly companion app will get a free lifetime subscription for all premium features that may come.
Customize your mirror to fit you
The Firefly app was designed with the user as our #1 priority. Your homescreen is modular and completely customizable, add whatever widgets you want, wherever you want them.
Apps, on apps, on apps
We plan on having the most extensive, functional, and beautiful connected apps for your mirror. We're constantly adding new features and your mirror will update with the latest apps as we create more and more. We love suggestions and feedback! When you back us on Kickstarter feel free to leave any ideas for apps that you might want on your Firefly mirror!
Not hanging Firefly in your room?
Not hanging Firefly in your bedroom or bathroom? No problem! IFTTT triggers will let any other internet connected device be your alarm. You can have lights flash, your phone ring, or even set your thermostat automatically. Plus, Firefly isn't only an IFTTT trigger - it can receive events also and display them right on your home screen so you are always up to date.

Our Uber flow is currently using Uber's sandbox API, so although real requests are made, they don't call an actual driver. This is so we can make sure everything works perfectly, and if our Kickstarter is funded we will submit the final version to Uber to use the full API.
How it's made
Firefly Smart Mirror is the result of many iterations and months of planning. You can get a sense of it from our video, but we wanted to show you in detail the process we've taken to develop the next generation mirror.
Stretch Goals:
Thanks to the great feedback from the Kickstarter community we're adding supporting multiple tablets as 120% funded stretch goal! Help us make this a reality! The feature will be based off a removable pusher design, so you can add multiple to the rails. On the software side we will have a separate mode in the app that disables the camera/mic/speakers so your additional tablet will act as a display only.

Riesgos y desafíos
Before we went to create the Kickstarter for this project we really wanted to ensure it's feasibility. We've seen lots of crowdsourced projects not deliver on time, or even worse, deliver a low-quality product to their backers (as longtime Kickstarter backers we've all had this happen)... we really, really do not want to be like that.
Before the launch of this project, we’ve already built many Firefly prototypes, including two fully functional ones that are used on a daily basis. So, unlike most other Kickstarter projects, we already know and have the proof that we can deliver an incredibly special product for our backers.
We've also done extensive planning to make sure that we meet the estimated shipping dates that we set forth in our backer rewards. However, manufacturing on a larger scale is still a completely new process for us and as with many Kickstarter projects there is always a possibility that unforeseen issues arise and cause us to have to push back our shipping estimates. Throughout this process we promise to be completely transparent in every part of Firefly’s development by providing our backers with detailed weekly updates, as well as an awesome inside look into our 3D printing and manufacturing process.
