Any band will tell you that the sophomore album release is likely the most important for establishing musical direction. Whereas their first album was polished, melodic, and bright, it didn't necessarily represent how the band had already evolved musically, which was important to showcase. To that end, Poor Old Lu opted to be more directly involved with their next album -- including choosing a local engineer/producer (John Goodmanson), sharing production duties, and opting for fewer overdubs so that the sonic qualities of the album would be nearer to what was heard in concert. The resulting sound would define them for years to come -- raw, energetic, dark, and unique. Even the album name and subsequent artwork became iconic and important -- challenging some listeners to step outside their comfort zone. Recorded during the heyday of grunge-era classics, 'Sin' spoke to the current generation without coming across as derivative. Now, 25 years later, the music and lyrics feel as pertinent as ever. Join us, as we reissue "Sin" on deluxe download, CD, and vinyl, remastered from the original master tapes. Let's make this happen...
STRETCH GOAL! We hit the $15,000 goal in roughly 48 hours. Amazing, and thank you! So let's try for a stretch goal: If we hit $22,000 by the close of the campaign, everyone who has pledged for a level that includes vinyl will automatically have their vinyl pledge upgraded from a single LP to a double LP in a gatefold jacket with the second LP consisting of bonus material from the "Sin" era. Let's make that happen!
You have questions - we have answers!
Is Kickstarter a store? ~ No! For those unfamiliar with Kickstarter ~ this is an "all or nothing" fundraising platform. You pledge the level that you want, and if we make our financial goal we use those funds to make the project a reality! Yes, Kickstarter rewards tend to cost a bit more than normal retail, but project supporters are part of making something happen that probably otherwise wouldn't. If we don't make the fundraising goal, your cards aren't charged and the album goes back into limbo.
Is the band involved with this reissue? ~ Yes! Besides giving their blessing to have this campaign and reissue happen, they have been involved with choosing everything from the vinyl colors being pressed, handling the remastering, graphic design, and providing archival photos and promotion. Without them, this wouldn't be happening.
What formats are being offered in the Kickstarter? ~ We are offering Deluxe CDs, and limited edition 180g Vinyl + downloads in this campaign. ***Please note, if you are pledging for vinyl, we ship via USPS Media Mail using the Bags Unlimited heavy duty "Mighty Mailer". 99% of shipments arrive without issue. That said, unless your record arrives broken, torn, or in some way unplayable, we (Lo-Fidelity Records & Poor Old Lu) cannot exchange or accept returns for vinyl damaged by the USPS during shipping. If you would like to add shipping insurance to any domestic order, please add $5 to your pledge total, and let us know you would like insurance added by sending us a private message so we can note your pledge. Thank you.***
Will there be bonus tracks on the deluxe CD & download? ~ Yes! The band is planning to include bonus material from the "Sin" era on both the CD and all downloads. Bonus tracks currently being considered as follows:
Complain (demo) / Hope For Always (demo) / Slow (demo) / My World Falls Down (demo) / I Am No Good (demo) / Thoughtless (demo) / Bliss Is (demo) / Where Were All Of You (demo) / I Am No Good (Live @ The Paradox 2002) / Ring True (Live @ The Paradox 2002) / Bliss Is (Live @ The Paradox 2002) / Sickly (Live @ The Paradox 2002) / My World Falls Down (Live @ The Paradox) / Where Were All Of You (Remix, previously on Chrono) / Bliss Is Mellow (Previously on Chrono) / Army Guy (1995 Vinyl only bonus track)
What kind/size of T-Shirts are being used in the campaign? ~ Our manufacturer will use ROYAL BLUE pre-shrunk, 100% cotton, heavyweight Fruit Of The Loom or Gildan shirts in mens sizes Small through 5XL. We will also produce the design on "Ladies Cut" t-shirts in sizes X-Small through XL. Proposed shirt design by Scott Hunter:
Do you know what the vinyl pressings will look like? - We have artist renderings that give an idea of what the vinyl might look like, but they aren't exact...and pressings that feature multiple colors will always be different from record to record. All vinyl will be pressed in heavyweight 180g.
Hot Pink Vinyl
Clear Vinyl w/ Hot Pink Splatter
White & Red Pinwheel Vinyl
What is included in the "Sin" Book? - Reproductions of original handwritten song lyrics by Scott Hunter, archival photos, reproductions of gig posters and articles about the album from the era. The book will be 20 pages, professionally bound and printed on 8"x8" heavy stock matte paper..
What does the Funko Pop! Pink Bunny figure look like? - Something like this....
We will have only 10 bunnies signed by Scott Hunter and available in the "Total Sinner" package. Confuse your friends, relatives, and co-workers with this 3 ¾" little charmer sitting on your desk or bookshelf. ;)
If we meet the goal, how long will it be before you get my album? ~ June 2020 is the projected shipping date we have listed on this campaign. This could change based on manufacturing times, unforeseen delays, etc. It will hopefully ship much sooner. June 2020 is simply a projected "worst case scenario" date - not carved in stone. If waiting is something you're not wild about, this Kickstarter might not be for you... (Just sayin')
Risks and challenges
The main "risks" simply relate to manufacturing timelines to meet the 2020 shipping month if the campaign is successfully funded. If we meet the goal, and pledges go through in a timely manner so that we are quickly paid, we can begin production and then manufacturing. Please make sure you are pledging with a valid/non-expired credit card as any delays in Kickstarter collecting pledges results in delays in us getting paid...and sets us back with manufacturing, shipping, etc.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
