This summer, I will be going to the MacDowell Artist Colony, the oldest artist residency in the US, in New Hampshire to embark on a new project entitled: The Old Man of the Mountain. This Kickstarter Campaign to raise funds for photographic supplies, travel expenses, shipping and post production expenses. I have some unique rewards available if you support this project including a large scale Electrographic Photograph made using high voltage, high frequency electricity. Below you can view low res. scans of four photographs I made using this process.
In addition, I will have DVD Rewards, Collage art works, Letterpress Cards and other One-of-A-Kind Cinephile ART Objects for those who support The Old Man of the Mountain.
The Old Man of the Mountain will be comprised of photographs and looping film images on a rear screen that will be installed in a gallery space. I have been lucky to have been awarded a MacDowell Fellowship this summer and I will be dedicating myself full time to producing this project. I will be shooting images at the site of where the orginal Old Man of the Mountain once stood, amass sound recordings, and make collaged images on light sensitive film using D.I.Y. processes which I have been using for quite some time. My studio at MacDowell will be equipped with a darkroom to make this process possible. In addition, I have recently mastered making electrographic images during the past eight months.
I will merge these shadowgraphic traces with images shot at the site where the Old Man of the Mountain once stood, and examine the profiler re-construction that was made to simulate the rock-face impression. This year marks the tenth anniversary of the collapse of the rock face; when the face slid off the side of the mountain, many people saw it as an omen. I will also chronicle my impression of the geologic time scale of the rock formation and its relationship to people.
As a landscape work of Psychogeography, I will also be collecting stories as told by people of the vicinity, and incorporating these voices into the collage soundtrack.
Risks and challenges
I have been hand-making films for 25 years. My body of work attests to the fact that I know how to execute a filmmaking project from beginning to end despite unexpected setbacks. I have made over 50 film and videos and some of them had numerous obstacles, which I found different strategies to overcome. This is my first foray into on-line crowd-funding to help pay for the expenses of the project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
