Salutations, patrons of the arts arcane!

Al Emmo Digital Download Reward Available

First off the bat, if you pledged at the $50 Spellbinder or $70 Shaman tier, you’re in for a treat!

We haven’t officially announced the release of Al Emmo Enhanced (v4.0) -- but as we promised, you will be receiving your DRM-Free copies of the game and soundtrack first! Due to the large amount of keys we need to give out, registering an account at IndieGameStand is required.

The e-mail on your account needs to match the e-mail address you backed with, so we can be sure the keys go to the right people. We’ll be sending out a separate e-mail to all $50 and $70 backers with further instructions.

We need votes on Greenlight to help get the new version of Al Emmo on Steam. You can help us accomplish that by clicking the image below and voting "yes":

From the Frontline

The 16:10 conversion of Mage’s Initiation is coming to an end, which means that we can start turning our attention back to scripting in more of the actual game events...and expanding the world of Iginor, to boot!

JP has been working arduously, making the game world flourish (and fester) with sketches of new locations, such as the bandit camp! He’s also been working regularly with Chris to completely overhaul some of the older background screens which, for various reasons, weren’t really conveying the right visual impact. We’re pleased to say that the new revisions really do improve the atmosphere and make a big difference to the look and feel of the land.

Who resides at this mysterious forest camp?
Who resides at this mysterious forest camp?

And thanks to our bodacious backers...the Northern Wastelands have opened for business!

There be Burrowers in dem dar flatlands!
There be Burrowers in dem dar flatlands!

As you read this, we are working on getting this area of the game implemented and our next milestone will involve scripting the combat encounters and game events that take place here. We can’t wait to make these barren wastelands a fully-playable area, and it wouldn’t be in the game without your support. The Burrowers thank you too, for all the tasty humans they’ll now get to feast on!

More Swag than the Lord’s Manor on King’s Day…

We’ve also been keeping busy on the swag front! The ship that the rest of Iginor’s denizens have boarded will be docking about 2 weeks from now, which knocks most of the backer-owed merchandise out of the way.

We are currently discussing the art books with the printer and the artwork is being prepared for the final layout. However, due to design specs it looks like the Demon’s Deal decks and trading cards will be made last along with the t-shirts. Production and cargo shipping time will take another few months, so we’ll keep you posted!

Shout-Outs Where They’re Due

Mage’s Initiation’s own Brandon Blume just released his debut single! If you’ve enjoyed his work in our games, please check out his opus on his website and Bandcamp, and consider supporting him!

Adventure Mob is in the final stretch for their reggae-themed adventure game Bolt Riley and needs a large push to make it -- take a look and consider backing the game if you haven’t done so already!

Industry veteran Rob Landeros needs some help to get his sequel to the industry-changing 7th Guest puzzle game funded. This game was revolutionary in 1994, and we think it would be awesome to see a new game in the franchise!

If you’re into board games and anime, our colleague Sharine Sookaloo is Kickstarting “Rojikku” which is an anime version of chess, complete with a backstory and pen-and-paper game. Himalaya Studios will be supplying the awesome polyresin chess pieces if the Kickstarter succeeds!

We hope everyone has a restful Thanksgiving chock full of tasty food, and a safe Black Friday!

AGS has ports of both Android and iOS, so Mage's Initiation will definitely be released for both. We're in the process of converting Al Emmo to both Android and iOS now, and that's proving to be a good testing ground for uncovering any issues we might encounter with porting Mages to touchscreen devices.

Thanks for the info. Any chance we'll also see Al Emmo for iOS? I hope so!

    3. Chris_newest_smaller3.small

Creator Chris Warren on December 1

Yes, we intend to release Mages on iOS, though due to the way the App Store works (can't give away free copies to backers), we made iOS/Android versions a stretch goal, without actually making them a campaign reward. To date, there has been no development on the iOS version and we'll probably only be able to focus on it once the PC version is out the door. We're currently adding functionality to the game in various ways, though, which will make the porting process easier when the time comes. We'll keep backers updated on this.

Do you plan to release Al Emmo for iOS? If so, when might it be available?

    5. Chris_newest_smaller3.small

Creator Chris Warren on November 28

@Paskarl: Thanks, glad to hear that you approve! Regarding the game as a rewards, If you check the top of the main Kickstarter page (under the list of stretch goals) we added a bit about how the tiers worked. At the bottom is this:

"The $50 and $70 all-digital tiers stand alone and don't roll into the other tiers, as they were specially constructed for backers who only want digital rewards."

However, for people who don't own the game, Al Emmo Enhanced is currently available on the Indie Royale Bundle for the next 3 days or so. And you can pick it up for a steal, along with 5 other games at http://www.indieroyale.com

First at all, GREAT update for Al Emmo!
      But..
      @Chris:
I´m a bit confused about not getting Al Emmo at a $100 backer.
Cause it´s said that: Pledge $100 or more , ... , ..PLUS all previous rewards
That does not fit your explanation down below for Phoenixwi.

Yeah, don't get me wrong. I knew Paul was a piece of garbage before he even launched the Larry Kickstarter. It's why I couldn't bring myself to back the Larry project, despite the involvement of Al and Josh (the latter of whom has always been a very gracious contributor to our projects). But to me, giving any money whatsoever towards furthering Trowe's power was a complete deal-breaker.

Scumbags like this will just keep going and going and the more you engage them, the more fuel gets added to the fire. The best way to treat him is like the nothing that he is. Starve his need for attention, keep him away from any other beloved IPs, and let him fade away to a distant memory.

Ha yes, SD. Not worth my keystrokes, but even though I wasn't in the picture at the time? I discovered AGDI's games at time of my life when things were not going well and had no idea what was going to be in store a couple years later. Those games gave me hope of fulfilling my dream of becoming a game developer! Then my name gets added to the Himalaya banner as co-running the ship...so technically, that means the vaunted Sierra remakes are my stepchildren. But we have a saying in the Boogiedown Bronx: Insult my stepchildren, and appendages will decorate the Fordham Aqueduct!

It's a trainwreck I knew was going to crash for a LONG time. But you know the saying that war can bring out both the best and worst in people? Well, that crapstorm really showed how strong and awesome the adventure community is and how we got each others' backs-- fans and devs alike. It's a community I feel so fortunate to be part of!

Ha! That cracked me up. Yeah, wow, I'm pretty sure I recall that incident, R. Seems that Chris has the right of it, though. Only real way to deal with that sort, I reckon. Sorry to bring it up... I get real defensive of my devs, ya know? ^_^

      Paul who?

Creator Himalaya Studios, Inc. on November 25

Yes, I second IGS being fine folks-- they've been great to work with, and would highly recommend them.

@SD Ha, why did I picture some Angry Birds type of setup with that annoying white bird that lays the eggs that always land at the wrong angle...but actually, wait he DID drop a turd on us some time back! Not as Himalaya but as AGDI-- something to the effect of "do people actually like their games".

I guess being insulted by PT is some kind of badge of honor!

IGS are really good folks. As a Linux gamer, they've been incredibly supportive. The brunt of my collection is split between Desura and Humble, with the remainder being bought directly from the developer. IGS has become a really cool new distributor that I'm happy to support.

In other news, Himalaya is pretty much the last major independent adventure game dev that Paul Trowe of Replay Gameshasn't dropped a huge turd on yet :-(

    13. Chris_newest_smaller3.small

Creator Chris Warren on November 25

GOG have given us very strange feedback on our games, which is peculiar because the retro style of both Mages and Al Emmo matches a mutually-shared goal and audience. I'm still not even sure what their answer actually is, so right now I can't say with certainty that Himalaya's games will be available on GOG. At the moment we're focusing on Steam, first and foremost, and then getting the game out to portals that already host Al Emmo (like GamersGate etc). But if you do want to see Al Emmo on GOG, keep voting for the game at http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/al_emmo_and_the_lost_dutchmans_mine

So... probably not to GOG, then?

    15. Chris_newest_smaller3.small

Creator Chris Warren on November 25

@Phoenixwi: At the time of our Kickstarter campaign, the Al Emmo game was limited to the digital-only tiers as a way of giving those backers something unique (to compensate for the fact that they didn't get any other exclusive physical items).

    16. Missing_small

@Venron: I know what you mean! IndieGameStand is still relatively small, but we liked their unique angle of featuring individual games on their front page. I think their site is one to keep any eye on in the future! We tried to get in touch with the humble store, but they were getting a lot of e-mails at the time and to date, they still haven't replied. We didn't want to risk waiting indefinitely before we could get the goods out to backers. IGS were fast to reply and they were able to facilitate what we needed within a few days... so here we are.. :)

And yes, the Desura version will be updated-- we're hitting every portal where we've got the game for sale.

Any chance of Al Emmo showing up on GOG? I know attempts were made a while back and you never head back from them, has that changed at all now?

    25. Chris_newest_smaller3.small

Creator Chris Warren on November 24

@Jack: We might post some of the conversion screenshots in a later update. Most edits are pretty subtle, though. At a glance, most screens would just look like 40 pixels was shaved off both the top and bottom edges. One of the pictures that was scratched and redone is the priestess' palace main hall, which is the screenshot on the Mage's Greenlight page with the crab statue.

@Gamehorder: Yeah, everyone who bought the game previously will also be able to upgrade to the new version of Al Emmo for free. Just need to get a spare moment to update the version on our site. Digital download versions which were purchased directly from the Himalaya site will simply unlock with the same key. The new build will also be pushed to other portals so those upgrades should be automatic if you already own the game there. And if people bought a hard copy somewhere, a photo of the box/CD or receipt (if they still have it) would suffice to upgrade to the latest digital version.

@Rob: Damn, didn't realize the Bolt Riley link was out of action. And now it won't let me edit the post anymore. Thanks for posting it here.
