We are asking for your help to preserve this, and many other, traditional events, by making a contribution to our Event Fund and getting some great goodies in return!
With rent increases & changes in funding sources, the Olvera Street Merchants find themselves having a tough time gathering enough money to continue these wonderful traditions.
“Day of the Dead” or “Dia De Los Muertos,” in particular, is an event that is not only culturally significant, but a joyous occasion that we celebrate with our friends and family.
At Olvera we celebrate this holiday with a nine-night procession, including an ancient Mayan blessing & ceremony, Aztec dancing, a parade of “Living Muertos,” AND after each night’s procession, the merchants also provide sweet bread and champurrado to all in attendance.
Your support will not only create a more personal connection to our Day of the Dead celebration, but you will also help the merchants continue their legacy through beautiful, cultural, traditional events that have come to define Olvera Street & Los Angeles.
Remember, a contribution of any size will make all the difference!
Risks and challenges
None of these cultural events would be possible without the active group of merchants who put on these traditional events that are completely free to the public. The greatest challenges will be the crowds, every year the merchants give away over 100 gallons of Champurrado and somehow have enough left over for the homeless community and passers by. Events like these do not come without their challenges but, because the merchants are NOT alone, they are more than capable of handling the crowd and the logistics as they have for over 60 years.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
