About

As a comic creator, I may like my own ideas but I also like working with others.  So I'm creating Flashy the Overlord as not just a comic, but as a community, one where the readers will really have the opportunity to create alongside the creator.  Characters and settings that will appear in Flashy can be made by you, after filling out a questionnaire with over 50 different possible outcomes. I'll then use that information to bring your ideas to life in the pages of Flashy.  For example: Is your character a man or woman?  Is your character young or old?  You'll choose the people that Flashy and others will encounter and where these encounters will happen in the imaginary world that Flashy and these character live.

Creating comics is not a new passion for me, Flashy has been with me for a long time.

On July 4th 1985, a couple of friends of mine and I were celebrating the holiday on the roof of my parents home in Long Island. We had gotten some fireworks from a scruffy teenager and in broad day light began setting of bottle rockets and whistlers. Eventually the police came and ordered us down. My friend went home and the police spoke to my neighbors. When my parents came home they punished me and part of my punishment was I was grounded for the rest of the summer. With nothing much to do I drew my first comic book The Flashy Gang, mainly pirated from the cartoons and ninja movies I watched at the time. When school began again I showed my partner in crime from the fourth of July my work and we spend the next ten years off and on drawing and making more stories. I continued to make comics to this day. Finally now I think I'd like to share a revisiting of the source materials with my friends, family and whoever wishes to read it and whomever wants to help me make characters and communities are welcome to join in. So for your entertainment I humbly submit Flashy the Overlord.

I’m seeking funding to print the first three episodes of Flashy the Overlord. I have finished the first two episodes and I’m painting the third so completing them isn’t the problem. The problem I’m having is with printing costs and publicity.

The comic book is full color hand painted with watercolor and mixed medium techniques.

It will cost $400 to print one hundred copies of each of the three episodes.

It will cost $15 dollars to make the T-shirts.

I'm still in talks with the sales manager on pricing for the NY Comic Con if it's too expensive than I will take out as many ads that I can afford on comic fan sites.

I need a LOT of characters for later episodes of this story so I would like a diverse range of character.

Risks and challenges

One of the challenges I imagine having are related to the uncertainty of some of the ideas people may ask me to create for the book. I’m asking people to participate but I’m not sure if I’m a strong enough artist to draw everything in someone else’s imagination.

Another challenge is I’m not great with computers I might have difficulty scanning all the images into my computer. It’s an old computer and God forbid it crashes that would be a big setback.
