About this project
"Minimalism is not a style.
It is an attitude, a way of being.
It is a fundamental reaction to noise, disorder, and vulgarity.
Minimalism is a pursuit of the essence of things, not the appearance.
Minimalism is beyond time.
It is the stillness of perfection."
- Massimo Vignelli
A pen should seamlessly connect our minds and our medium.
It should be beautiful but seem invisible.
It should be ZERØ.
ZERØ has been uncompromisingly designed to provide the best writing experience. An inevitable byproduct of searching for the purest writing experience was minimalism. Through removing everything unnecessary, ZERØ offers an experience that focuses solely on writing and creation. Minimalism is not simply the style of ZERØ, it is the soul of ZERØ.
ZERØ is not only a design piece; it is also a sensational writing instrument. The form of ZERØ has been crafted to be comfortable and pure. The balance has been meticulously calculated in computer models to ensure optimal balance for silky, effortless writing. We chose the uncompromising and well respected German nib manufacturer, Bock, for the finest writing experience. The beauty of ZERØ lies not only in its form, but also in its function.
I started Trilogy Pens in 2013 with the goal of sharing design and craftsmanship with my customers. I began by making luxury handcrafted writing instruments from exotic hardwoods. At the time, I was only 15 but had over 7 years of in depth woodworking experience. Each pen I made was a piece of art. Every detail was considered. Since then, Trilogy Pens has grown and evolved. However, everything I learned making those pens from the tangible, like optimal dimensions and weight, to the intangible, like beauty of process, absurd attention to detail, and craftsmanship, are in the DNA of our new pen. When I was making wood pens, I spent hours upon hours over the lathe trying to perfect the pen. With ZERØ I believe I finally have.
"I think the Zero is a slick pen. The more I've used it, the more I find I enjoy what the people at Trilogy have put together and I really, really like it ... super sleek and very polished. " - The Clicky Post
"When capped, they look like an otherworldly, unblemished, pure cylindrical mass. Remove the cap, and you have a world class writing instrument to pen down your literary genius. ZERØ channels the Minimalist approach with sheer determination, embracing it through and through. The result is a pen so fine, you won’t be able to take your hands off it... If you look at the philosophy and meticulous detail gone into crafting something this pure, you notice how much has gone into attaining such a level of perfection." - Yanko Design
"Nearly all fountain pens are gaudy affairs complete with overly busy designs. The design of Trilogy’s Zero Fountain Pen was taken in an opposite direction." -Gear Hungry
"I think the Zero Fountain Pen by Trilogy has a ton of potential. Its an incredibly substantial pen that retains great modesty due to it’s minimalist design and it manages to write very nicely without any of the flaws that you might assume come along with such a large pen. For a fountain pen with this much subtle presence I think the current pricing on Kickstarter is definitely worth it. If it the project is successful you will be getting the footprint and presence of a pretty imposing pen for a great (read mid-range) price." - Office Supply Geek
"Its’s a pen I’ve been enjoying picking up and writing with. It stands out from similar “minimalist” Kickstarter-launched pens... It’s a reasonable price ($50 early bird, $60 later) and if I wasn’t on an absolute (and extremely hard to stick to) spending hiatus I would back it." - Pens Paper Pencils
In designing the ZERØ, we were fanatical in our attention to details both seen and unseen. It's like finishing the back of a fence or underside of a table; nobody will see it, but you do it because it's just right. Our products are a reflection of ourselves and our values. Over the course of two years, we poured over and refined every detail for iteration after iteration. The result is ZERØ, a pen that reflects our insatiable desire for perfection.
The most fundamental element of any product is its material. ZERØ begins life as virgin space-grade 6000 series aluminum. This alloy was deliberately chosen for the optimal weight, feel, durability and function of ZERØ. This alloy serves as the pure, precise foundation ZERØ is built upon.
The beauty of ZERØ is not only in the product but in the process. ZERØ is CNC-machined for uncompromising precision. The USA manufacturer we have chosen has roots in the aerospace industry and was ultimately selected because of their shared commitment to quality and fanatical attention to detail.

Risks and challenges
We have the capability to produce and fulfill orders far beyond our funding goal. We have taken great care to arrange all of our suppliers and manufacturers prior to the project. We have gotten pre-production prototypes to ensure quality and capability. We have great confidence that we can along with our manufacturers deliver our products quickly and on time. However, there are always factors out of our control, and out of the control of our manufacturers which may affect delivery time. If any unforeseen circumstances do arise, we take it as our responsibilities as creators to keep our backers informed and to keep ourselves available for questions.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
