About the Book
Myra Makes, Journey to Cloud City contains 64 pages of fun, adventure-based activities for ages 6-10. The story will guide you through a variety of landscapes and learning opportunities with Myra and friends.
Myra Makes activities incorporate a wide range of learning goals, along with exciting mazes, word finders, and coloring pages.
One of our favorite aspects of Journey to Cloud City is that it provides ample opportunities for tactile learning when paired with arts and crafts supplies to bring imagination to life! Here are some of our favorite creations:
The Myra Makes team is proud to say that over the last two years we’ve contributed over 4,500 hours to developing our products and our mission. In this time, we’ve completed the interior of the book, volunteered our time to facilitate children’s programs at countless community events, interviewed dozens of families to understand our customer needs, completed the Catalyze CU accelerator program, and much more. We are tweaking the book for this Kickstarter to address some common concerns: the binding and the cover.
We are also working on a cover redesign to give Myra the introduction she deserves!

Our Story & Vision
Myra Makes began as a little project for a design thinking class at CU Boulder in May 2014. Originally created to inspire young girls with an interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), Myra experienced a long hibernation while the original founders (Ted Thayer, Braeden Miguel, and Eliot Kersgaard) worked on other projects together.
Then, in Spring 2016, Ted, Braeden and Eliot returned to Myra Makes and re-imagined it as a startup to help excite kids with an interest in problem solving and design thinking skills. That summer, we led our first day-camps to research and explore different methods of achieving that vision. During that program, the idea for Journey to Cloud City was born. Using basic graphics, we produced our very first version of the book to send home with the families that participated in the program.
In spring of 2017, we began to dedicate full-time hours to the young company. We started to gain traction and participated in the Catalyze CU accelerator program summer of 2017. With a team of amazing interns, we created our new logo, finished developing the book, and started experimenting with an app version.

Risks and challenges
Cover redesign. We are in the process of redesigning the cover of Journey to Cloud City and won't be able to fulfill any orders until we are 100% satisfied with the result. The cover redesign will be a couple-week process with no anticipated delays. Any delay in fulfillment as a result of cover redesign will be communicated to backers.
Proofing and printing the books. In our experience getting print-ready books available for sale, the proofing process typically takes longer than expected as we must check that all colors are perfect, margins are correct, and so on. We will be able to begin the proofing process with our printer once we reach the funding goal, and it will likely take 2-4 weeks. After that, the printing process should be complete within 2 weeks. Any delay in fulfillment as a result of proofing and printing will be clearly communicated to backers.
