We live in a world where physical activity for kids is becoming less and less. Video games and TV shows are taking over and obesity is a growing concern. Kids are dropping out of organized sports at a fast rate because it is no longer fun.
Why are kids not playing more sports? Let's face it, because practicing can be boring. For the last 5 years, I've struggled with my own 10-year-old daughter, trying to get her to go out and kick a soccer ball around. She finds it boring to practice without her team, she can't see progress when she practices even though her coach and I can see her potential.
The idea was born to bring technology integrated into sport balls to motivate and encourage kids to play their favorite sport by providing reassuring coaching cues and provide them a visual report of their progress with data captured directly from the ball. In addition Inside Coach smart balls gives the player real time coaching cues and positive feedback such as "Good throw!," or, "That was your best kick yet!," or, "That was a perfect spiral!," or, "Oh, let's try that again!."
Inside Coach technology contains various sensors and is inserted inside a sports ball. It recognizes the force of impact upon a ball, when it is kicked or thrown, the spin of the ball, acceleration etc. It sends this data to the Inside Coach mobile app where it keeps a history of progress and displays instantly so the player can see his or her progress visually. The mobile app is configurable with rules and techniques that a player can do to improve her or his skills.
Inside Coach technology gives the users a social experience by finding online friends or teammates with an Inside Coach ball and app and allows them to challenge each other online with specific exercises. In essence, they each do the same drill from their own backyard and then compare their results online. This is a fun way to improve their skills and engage in social practice.
The player can also advanced to different levels base on his or her abilities and the data that is collected from the Inside Coach technology.
The system will then suggest things that he or she can work on to improve.
There are other million possibilities but hopefully you get the gist. The benefits for our kids are immense. Our ultimate goal is to make a fun and enjoyable technology that keeps kids interested in practicing. The possibilities don't end there, adults can enjoy this, too!
We have already made great strides. We have a working prototype that can capture and report out data. But we still have a ways to go and we need your help to make this project happen.
This is where you come in, with your pledge we can afford to pay for engineers to get smaller, perfect our prototype and manufacturers to mass produce it.

Sergiu has 20+ years of experience in Hardware and Software Engineering. He is the author of an electronic's blog: www.starlino.com. Sergiu has developed many Inertia Measurement Units (IMU) based products including motion game pads and mouses.
He is a member of open source community. His work and ideas are used in many open hardware and software products, most notably MultiWii board controllers. He has a long list of clients from emerging start-ups to established companies such as APEM and Boeing. Carl Belnap - Electrical Engineer
Carl is an entrepreneur with more than 30+ years of experience in the field of power electronics. Carl has developed, tested, and launched many state-of-the-art electronic products and is currently conducting research in long-range wireless power transmission. Carl earned a BSEE from the University of Utah in 1982 and an MSEE from Utah State University in 1994. He enjoys hunting, fishing, hiking and spending time with his family.
Stacy San Juan - Co-Founder of Inside Coach, VP of Marketing
Stacy has a degree in Marketing Communications from Brigham Young University and then has gone on to have 15+ years of experience in the field. But her love of marketing came as a child when she discovered that the best part of television shows were the commercials. She become intrigue with how products shown on TV targeted certain audiences, how companies determined price points, what made effective distribution, and, her favorite, product branding. She decided at that young age that marketing would be her dream job. Stacy loves strategically developing campaigns that helped companies grow and expand in their market. She loves books, Diet Coke, movies, and spending time with her family.
Nicolas San Juan - Creator and CEO, PM/Software Engineer, Soccer Coach
Nicolas came up with Inside Coach after he realized that his own daughter didn't enjoy practicing soccer outside of team practices and games. His goal is to find ways to keep kids active and healthy while playing a sport they love.He has a degree in Computer Science from Weber State University, has worked in the technology field for a decade from start ups to well established companies.
Nic plays soccer for fun on the weekends (both indoor and outdoor). He likes running, watching football, basketball, the World Cup every four years, New York pizza, and spending time with his wife and two adorable daughters.
Risks and challenges
The only risks after our project is funded could be some delay in manufacturing, that's why we we are leaving ample time. Our hope is that once we get the money we need we can start adding the right minds to our team and help us push full steam ahead and delivery this product to you as soon as possible.
We are in conversation with manufacturers in getting an idea of the cost and the timeline of production. Our next steps are to move forward and line up the manufacturing while perfecting the details of the product so we are ready to go and deliver our product to our backers on time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
