Introduction

Micro Wars (Working Title!) is a text-based browser MMO that is designed to be played from anywhere - your home, on the bus to school, or slyly at work while your boss is not looking. We've taken some hints from other successful ventures in this realm of game, and are not going to be overloading the player with fancy .php pages and long load times. What will be presented is a simple, streamlined layout with whimsical graphics here and there to spruce up certain pages.

Micro Wars places you in the commander's chair, directing an outfit of troops millions of miles away on the newly discovered planet of Titan, named after Saturn's largest moon. You will recruit characters, interact with other commanders, form alliances, and sever diplomatic ties through a well-placed bomb!

The Game's Philosophy and Features

Gameplay will focus on gobbling up as much acreage of land on Titan as you can to facilitate mining Titanium (currency) to teleport back to Earth. This will fund your endeavors into obtaining more land and becoming the dominant force on the planet. You will obtain land by:

  • Having your outfit deployed. From the time you start playing onward, your foothold will slowly increase on the planet.
  • Battling NPC outfits already established on the planet.
  • Battling other players and taking their land from them!

How will we battle each other?

  • At the beginning of the game, players will be randomly assigned three recruits. Each recruit will have a land, air, and sea-based skillset, and will improve over time as you use them. At first, you will only battle on land. As your expand your dominance, your team will take the the skies and sea to exert their control.
  • You can pick up additional recruits from the Recruit Depot with Titanium gained daily or by donating to the game to receive Platinum currency.
  • One recruit must be assigned the Executive Officer (XO) of your outfit, the "in theatre" commander, if you will. They will be promoted to the grade of Captain in this position. You can switch them out as you want.
  • The other recruits will be listed as land, air, naval, or special operators. Their skillsets and equipment will determine how well they fare against the opposition.
  • There will be a maximum of ten recruits per "team" at the beginning of the game. Any overflow recruits will be "waiting assignment" at your firebase. Unassigned recruits will assist in defense of your land if you come under attack, so it does good to rotate recruits through different teams.


What about achievements in-game?


There will be two types of achievements within Micro Wars: individual awards and unit citations.

Unit Citations are applied to your username as a whole and act as account achievements: Logging in a certain amount of days straight, fighting in X amount of battles, etc. They will be viewable on your personal page.

Individual Awards are applied to certain characters: shot down X amount of times in air battles, X amount of air-to-air kills, X amount of time in service to the outfit. This will be viewable on the outfit page.

Alliances!

Players will be afforded the chance to ally with each other for common goals in Alliances. These entities will be able to sign treaties with other alliances, non-aggression pacts, or even declare war on another alliance.

Outfits will either be classified as members or council members of an alliance. Council members will be able to sign treaties, etc, with other alliances.

Progress!

We coded the initial backstructure of the game and have debugged it. It is basically ready to receive the additional features that spruce up the game as far as achievements and alliances.

Our artist is currently toiling away in his free time on art for possible recruits and sketches of the firebase and storyline art.

Funding from the Kickstarter will allow us to provide security debugging for the game to plug up any possible loopholes and security flaws in the games coding. It will also allow for us to bring in some additional artists to crank out some varied artwork in order to spruce up the game. Beyond there, there are some massive legal costs that go with copyrighting and to overcome that hump will take the majority of the funding. AND after ALL of that is done, we will sit back, launch the game and continue to expand and contribute content to Micro Wars!


Current Timeline

During and after the Kickstarter funding phase, we will dump the newly acquired financial assets into getting the game to a releasable level. This is not to say we will rush development, but release a fun, stable version of the game while continuing to improve upon the idea. Funding through donations and purchases of Platinum should continue to fuel the fire.

We are planning for a limited beta test in October, with a full release to the general public in December of this year. The timeline is subject to alterations, but with the progress we are making and have made already, this should be totally achievable.
