About this project
Kickstarter has helped me to launch 11 projects. As a German artist living and working in Frankfurt Germany, I started by using the American Kickstarter platform before Kickstarter went international--that was in 2010. Seven years later, I have released fonts, calendars, postcards and notebooks to an international group of backers.

The invitation to be part of Kickstarter Gold got me thinking about what projects I enjoyed the most and how I could bring them together in a new and timely way.
Here, in honor of Kickstarter's Birthday, I am offering a new reward based on my two most popular campaigns: the Albert Einstein font which renders Albert Einstein's handwriting and was funded here on Kickstarter in 2015 and the Sigmund Freud typeface which was also created with the help of thousands of backers on Kickstarter in 2013.
I was inspired by the 1932 correspondence between Albert Einstein and Sigmund Freud on the topic of war. Einstein sought out Freud to discuss if and how it would be possible to save mankind from war forever. These letters were published in 1933 under the title “Why War?” with a little print run of 2000 copies. Beyond the curiosity to see how the exchange could be reproduced with the fonts I made, I feel as a artist that it is important at this precise moment in time to circulate all forms of reflection about violence—its causes and alternatives. So I would like to give you the fonts and also to snail-mail you these as “real” letters (in German and translated into English). Hopefully they will inspire you, to think further on these matters.

First come, first served. The following rewards are one of a kind — only one of each is available. During the creation process of the fonts I used prints of Freud's and Einstein's letters, envelops, notes, postcards, travel diaries etc. to look for letters that could be used later in the font. These prints are exactly the size of the original, to get a feeling for the real-life proportions of the handwriting. During the work these prints are covered with various notes from me and in some cases even traces of coffee. Over the months and years working with these, they became to me more like beautiful pictures and compositions that tell a story. Since I can't hang all of them, I would like to give them into good hands and fund this project that is dear to me.

The Sigmund Freud Typeface is the first handwriting font that is based exactly on samples of an author's handwriting. It holds four variation of each lowercase letter. The different versions are exchanged by the font automatically as one types.
With the Albert Einstein font I wanted to push the design even further to get closer to the complex look of handwriting. The font holds 5 variations of not only the lowercase letters (a, b, c, d…) but also uppercase letters (A, B, C, D…), numbers and signs. Additionally the Albert Einstein font is created with different weights (Regular, Bold…). The result can be seen side by side below, original Manuscript in black, Albert Einstein Font in red:

Compatibility: Both fonts work on Windows(PC), Mac, iOS (iPhone & iPad) as well as Linux systems. The fonts are delivered in OpenType format (TrueType and Postscript) ready for you to use with your favourite Textediting software like Word, Pages, OpenOffice, LibreOffice etc. as well as all your Apps on your iPhone and iPad that support font selection (i.e. Word, Pages…). Language support: both fonts support all Western, Central European, Baltic languages as well as special characters needed for Romanian and Turkish and Icelandic. The Sigmund Freud Typeface supports letters to write historic German script called Kurrent. The Albert Einstein font holds a variety of mathematical notation as well as greek letters needed to write physics.

Risks and challenges
Every artistic project bears risks. Every project is new and brings up unforeseeable risks and challenges both technically and artistically. I have published two comparable projects (Sigmund Freud Typeface and the Albert Einstein font) as well as 8 other typographic Kickstarter Projects (Typographic Wall Calendar Series, Typographic Postcards Series and Cancel / Save Notepad) that involved a lot of packaging and shipping — so I know about the artistic, technical and logistic pitfalls to avoid. The research, experience and preparation that I already made for this project, assures me that I am able to complete this project within the projected timeframe.
