WE MADE IT!! YEAH! We just broke the $2500 mark, guaranteeing the success of the fundraiser!! Your continued support and shared enthusiasm for our goal of creating harmonious, love-inspired music is wonderful. We can't wait to get to work making your rewards, and finishing up this album. For now, there's 24 hours left to raise the amount as high as we can!
Another, Another Update!!: WOW. We are overwhelmed and humbled by all your support. It means the world to us. As we are rapidly approaching the finish line, and we are over 80% of the way there! You are all awesome. We just added a new reward to get you frothing-at-the-mouth excited. For a measly $100 you now get the option to choose a side to paint on Jeremy's keyboard box! This would be a great choice for artists who would like their work represented everywhere we go. And for $100 you can still choose a custom poster hand-painted by Paige if you would prefer that instead! ALSO the painted windows were lowered to $150, so you can now pick between a custom-painted window pane or a show dedication with guest list privileges.
In addition! Everyone who participates in the Kickstarter will have their name printed on the liner notes for the album. And in case you didn't catch it, everyone who participates will ALSO receive a LIMITED EDITION collection of B-sides/Demos, never before released!! This compilation will only be released to those who help us by pledging to the Kickstarter.
Don't forget to spread the word! IF WE DON'T REACH OUR GOAL OF $2500 BY SATURDAY AFTERNOON WE GET NOTHING, WHICH MEANS YOU GET NOTHING! Make this album a reality, along with all the amazing rewards we are prepared to shower you with in return for your help. ;)
Another Update!!: I'd like to take another opportunity to THANK everyone who has participated in our fundraising effort so far. We are over 60% of the way there!
However, we now have ~$1000 to raise and 3 days to do it. If you would like to help and have already pledged a monetary contribution, or perhaps you're tight on cash and are looking for other ways to be a part of the campaign, you can help us spread the word by SHARING the Kickstarter.
Share it on your page, share it on your friend's page, put it in tumblr, tweet it, myspace it, livejournal it, email it, shout it out in the streets and make sure that all your friends know about it!
Also, for those within the Jacksonville area, we're going to be ON THE RADIO on 89.9 FM (NPR)!! Tonight The Cure will be on Indie Endeavor at 11 PM. Tomorrow morning we will be interviewed by Melissa Ross on First Coast Connect and The Cure will be played at 9 AM. These are great opportunities to let your friends hear a sneak peek of what will be on the album!
Finally, you can now download THE CURE for yourself and listen to it anytime! A little taste of the album just for you!
Hello! Ca va! Buenos Dias!
Thank you for visiting the RICE kickstarter. Below you can read all about the story of Rice and our future plans and aspirations after the completion of this project. Thanks for checking us out and supporting independent music!
The album Keep Warm has been a concept for almost three years. We began making simple home recordings on Chris and Paige's laptops immediately upon forming the band, and as we worked on the songs we learned a lot about song-writing, performing, musicianship, and recording. More importantly, we've learned a lot about ourselves, each other, and life. We want to share what we've learned with YOU! Over the years we have developed and refined this band to spread the love, beauty, and harmony of life by expressing those ideals through music. The completion of Keep Warm will be the most concrete and permanent realization of this ideal yet. We want this album to be uploaded to iTunes and a vast array of blogs and media sites, broadcast on college and independent radio stations, and shared around the WORLD!
This is where YOU can add your influence and be part of our community.
Our friends, our family, our fans - you have been with us since the beginning and have always supported us. It is because of you that we have reached this point. With this Kickstarter we hope to take that continued support and in turn raise money for our upcoming album while rewarding YOU for helping us every step of the way.
Music is about sharing an experience between the performers on stage (or in the studio) and the listeners in the audience. In order to facilitate this, we would like to bring you our sound on vinyl so you can listen to every detail of Keep Warm in glorious analog. To do this, we need to raise $1300 to purchase the initial shipment of 300 records. Some of these records will be returned to you as rewards for helping us raise the funds to accomplish this task. Others will be distributed to the press to help raise awareness about Rice and expand our local music community. BUT! - Every single one of them will represent the combined effort of us, the musicians, and you, the listeners, to create a dynamic, shared community and enrich the world.
You may be asking by now why we have set our goal to $2500 if we only need $1300 to press on vinyl. Fair question!
There's much more that goes into this process than simply buying the records. Besides the recording process, there's mixing and mastering the recordings. Then there's duplication and distribution of the recordings. In addition, there's album artwork, promotional materials, shipping. etc. We are not signed to a label, although along with fellow local bands Opiate Eyes, Wild Life Society and Robin Rutenberg and Friends we form the independent co-op label Skinny Records (http://www.skinny-records.com/). However, Skinny is not a financial backer, but rather a community of like-minded artists with a shared vision. That means we are producing this album and handling all of the costs by ourselves. Every aspect of Keep Warm, from song-writing to recording to mixing to distribution is being handled by US and our friends as independent musicians to bring you the purest, more sincere music possible.
We've set our funding goal higher than $1300 so that in addition to pressing the album on vinyl we can pay Ryan for the recording time he has selflessly donated to the band at his studio, Warehouse Studios (http://www.facebook.com/warehousestudiosjax).
Yep, you read that right! In addition to being a member of the band, Ryan also runs a recording studio and has handled all our recording for Keep Warm.
We will also use some of the funding to pay Keagan Anfuso and our project video team at the local production company Fat Screaming Baby (http://www.facebook.com/FSBProductions) for a professional music video that will feature a single from the album. This is an important part of the promotion of the album, and we're very excited to be working with Keagan and her team on this aspect of our album release. They did a great job with the Kickstarter and we can't wait to see what they come up for the music video!
Remaining funding will be split between the various costs of producing and distributing an album, and creating rewards for you, our wonderful fans. If there's any left after all that, we will purchase more records!
Now that you know what we want to do with your hard-earned moneys, let's hear about what you get in return! (Besides the satisfaction of helping a DIY independent band publish their first album of course, we all know you're here for the sick loot!)
Here's just a few of the awesome treats we have for our backers! Check out our rewards on the right side of the page for a full list of benefits and a few bad jokes.
First and foremost, everyone who donates to the Rice Kickstarter, at any donation level, receives a copy of Rice B-sides/Demos that will ONLY be released to the Kickstarter participants. This includes early versions of the songs that will be on Keep Warm, spontaneous jams, old songs that have been phased out, etc. Some of what you may receive could end up being early versions of future Rice songs, or it could be moments that will never be recreated (like that song we recorded in that record store where Paige lived that didn't have hot water). This is a one-time opportunity, ONLY for those who take part in this Kickstarter campaign! Don't miss out!
At the lowest donation level of just $1 you can score a HAND PAINTED Rice shaker as well as a big bear hug from the band and our eternal gratitude for your support!
For a larger donation of $25 you're getting a one of a kind, HAND PAINTED Rice shirt. These are very special. This particular set of designs will no longer be used for merch after the kickstarter. So be a part of the magic! Donate $25 and you'll also get a download of the album, Keep Warm, CDs of Breathe and Dear Bird AND a Rice shaker, button, sticker pack. Here's one of MANY unique shirts.
Others rewards include a hand painted skateboard deck, antique windows, and a CHURCH ORGAN!
Here are the window panes, prior to being painted. Once they're done they will look fantastic on someone's wall!
That's Zeke, our manager. He will be making sure every reward we create is up to par.
With so many great, different ways to help, we hope you'll encourage others to help us reach our goal and print our first album on VINYL!
Thank you for seeking out and supporting local bands and businesses!
Stay tuned to our Kickstarter for updates as we continue through this process!
