About this project
Our recipe has been perfected and handed through many generations
Having recently inherited the old family recipe and having made some for personal use I would like to produce this commercially on a small scale so everyone can sample this fine drinl.
Our poteen was produced in the Glen’s of Antrim in Northern Ireland for generations and we are now moving production to Republic of Ireland so our production can go legal. We have applied to become only the third licenced poteen maker in the world and should be producing legally from March.
Our poteen is produced using the world’s finest potatoes from the Glen’s Of Antrim which gives it the uniquely great taste. County Antrim is famous for the Giant’s Causeway, The Causeway coast and the Glen’s of Antrim, these things make Co. Antrim a truly magical place and that magic can be tasted in our Giant’s Causeway Premium Poteen
What is Poteen
Poteen is a distilled spirit that is made from potatoes and has been brewed in Ireland for centuries and was made illegal in 1666 until it was made legal in Republic of Ireland in 1997. Irish Poteen is a European Union G.I. Protected Status Spirit. The strong spirit has been enjoyed for over 1000 years and is famed for it’s strength and alleged medicinal qualities.
Irish whiskey is great but Poteen is it’s strong and traditional father.
This will help carry on the tradition of this great drink and will allow it to be brought to all those Irish Americans who haven’t had their homelands traditional drink.
We have everything in place to produce apart from some of the funding so please help us out.
How we will spend your moneyWe plan on using the funding to:
- help us move production
- marketing and distribution
- bottling and labeling
Risks and challenges
Our main challenges include reinvigorating Poteen to the market. We have started discussion with distributors. We have already sampled the product and the feedback has been great but it will be a challenge to compete with established Irish Whiskeys with massive budgets.
We do feel that the authentic nature will give this product a niche foothold and hopefully we can build from there.
Another key challenge is changing the process from a small scale to a commercial scale. But we have researched this and have an experienced distiller to work on a consultancy basis.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
