Roost Artist/Photographer and co-founder David Wilkes is currently on location in Ghana, Africa where he is visually documenting child labor and human trafficking conditions in the fishing industry in connection with a project sponsored by UBELONG (www.ubelong.com) This is one of many images David has made, some of which we will display at RoostGallery along with an informative community presentation by David about what he has witnessed and possibly an eventual short documentary David has filmed.

- provide a social gathering place for artists, audiences and the local community
Risks and challenges
Roost has already generated tremendous interest among the arts and local community, and over 90% of our projected Artist membership total has already committed to a contract with Roost, which will partially help fund Roost's activities. We are already partnered with the New Paltz Re-use and recycling center and and other local non profit organizations to create mural projects addressing environmental and social issues. We envision the central village location for our studio, work space and exhibition space on Main Street in New Paltz being a hub of creative activity in the area! However, in order to secure this location we must ensure that we can generate enough funds to design and create facilities to house our exhibitions, educational programming, and cultural and social programming. If we are unable to raise sufficient starting capital to execute a lease for the next year, we will not be able to proceed with our venture. Our greatest risk is, therefore, being unable to source sufficient donations and arts grants to fill the gap between membership dues and our expenses. Moreover, it is important that we keep dues as low as possible so that dues are not an obstacle to bringing in great artists and committed teachers and facilitators. We estimate that $15,000 of additional capital is required for Roost to meet our expense needs for the next year.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
