Liberating Strife is the first sourcebook for the Wild Skies tabletop role-playing game, and expands the setting to include the technology, politics and cultures of North America. The focus is on the United States and the Great Trust, a massive corporate enterprise which controls almost every aspect of life there. The scientific genius of Edison and Tesla has been combined by the Trust into modern marvels like electric planes, wireless communication and directed energy weapons.
“In short, this previous annum was a banner year for our company, in which we may justly take great pride. We now have 94 percent market share nationwide with 100 percent in many key markets. As expected, the federal government continues to realize our products are indispensable to the nation's defense. Our government contracts were all renewed and our lobbying efforts were successful in establishing and supplying the new Western Fleet. We continue to be without significant competition in the public sector, and our subcontractors make sure to eliminate any upstarts. Despite some unpleasantness and unfortunate, though acceptable competitor defections and deaths in the early part of the year, measured worker productivity as well as reported worker satisfaction increased for the third year running. Profits increased 6 percent for the second year. Times are good and we expect we can continue to make the future bright.”
- Elijah Dennington, CEO, Dennington Trust, from Annual Report to the Board of Directors,1929
Wild Skies: Liberating Strife gives players more of everything they love about the Wild Skies setting. The book details the rise of the Great Trust under Ulysses S. Dennigton, his consolidation of all the important industries under one corporate entity, and the barely credible scientific marvels which have been the result. It explores how Martha Dennington-Musgrove, the newly-elected President of the United States and granddaughter of Ulysses, will handle the firm isolationist policies of her predecessors in an increasingly dangerous world as she battles her relatives for control within the Company. The book is packed full of new material for players and Game Masters alike. There will be new character options, gear, the newest directed energy weapons, sleek new voltaic airplanes, and new airships specific to North America to fill the skies with more dogfights than ever before.
- 20 new Animal Types, including Armadillo, Bison, Opossum, Raven and Zebra.
- New Perks and Quirks dealing with American customs and society.
- 10 new Careers, including Bureaucrat, Company Man, Hypnotist and Journalist, all compatible with previous Careers.
- New axes for the Moral Compass so you can tell stories about Americans.
- This is a sourcebook for the Wild Skies setting. A copy of the rules, contained in Wild Skies: Europa Tempest, is required to make full use of this book.
Wild Skies is a tabletop anthropomorphic role-playing game set in an alternate history 1930s. The broad shape of history up to the Twentieth Century is the same, but there are some major differences which set it apart. First, humans have never existed. Everyone is an anthropomorphic animal with traits and abilities which allow for a wide range of character choices. Second, the element vrillium allows flying battleships and floating fortresses to exist. This technology was first perfected in 1906, which led to arms race and eventually the Great War between the powers of Europe. The United States stayed out of the war and watched as Europe descended into a chaos which has not yet been completely resolved. Many former soldiers now work as mercenaries employed by one of the new nations of Europe, by the air shipping lines which cross national boundaries, or by one of the pirate groups who prey on them.
The first book, Wild Skies: Europa Tempest, was first published in 2017 after a successful Kickstarter campaign. It contains information about the major powers of Europe as well as the complete Rules and Character Creation process. It should be noted that Wild Skies: Europa Tempest is required to play Wild Skies: Liberating Strife.
Wild Skies uses the innovative Compass System which features percentile dice (2D10) for skill rolls which can be augmented by additional six-sided dice, depending on how skilled a character might be and other situational modifiers. Basic skill resolution uses the percentile dice to fall within target ranges for success and failure set by the difficulty of the task. The initial roll can be augmented up or down by a character’s Attributes and by rolling Skill Dice (D6) to hopefully fall into the desired range, with more experienced characters able to roll more dice.
It also features a unique unified alignment and experience system called the Moral Compass. The Moral Compass is created during the character creation process and can be rebuilt many times throughout the life of the character. The player uses it to determine a character’s motivations throughout the telling of the story, and can earn Plot Points each session which are tracked on the Compass as the character moves towards personal growth and development. Characters earn rewards such as additional Health or new skills as they move along each axis of the Compass.
Characters are created based on a character concept and using a point buy to balance nine Attributes, three Primary Attributes each with two Secondary Attributes. Players choose Animal Type, Animal Abilities, Size, Perks and Quirks to build the exact character they want to play instead of leaving character creation elements to random rolls and chance. Each character also chooses two careers which each grant initial skills and set the starting number of Skill Dice for each skill.
We have character creation and gameplay tutorials readily available on our YouTube channel HERE.
"Wild Skies is as Dieselpunk as it comes and is destined to be the quintessential dieselpunk RPG!" - John "Big Daddy Cool" Pyka, The Dieselpunk Podcast
"Wild Skies is the best anthropomorphic RPG I’ve read in the last 30 years. The setting is a World War I mash. It’s a little diesel, a little punk and a lot of machine guns. Mechanically, it’s on the lighter side in regards to crunch, but the true gem of this RPG is sheer variety of anthropomorphic characters players will create. If you’re in the market for any of the above, I don’t think you can go wrong backing this one… That is, unless you don’t." - Knights of the Dinner Table Reviewer: J.L. Duncan
"Great setting from great guys. I never thought I'd enjoy playing animals until I realized it's like reliving my childhood Saturday morning cartoons. But with diesel power!" - Jaime Pierson, The RPG Brewery
"Wild Skies is a gem of a game that's fun both to run and to play. The system is easy to learn, and the game world is unique and interesting. Though an alternate history, the historical events of the setting are well-researched and believable. Character generation is quick and painless, and my players really got into their characters. Whether you're a history buff or not, animal lover or not, I'd say that Wild Skies has something for everyone." - Isaac Xavier-Santos
"I love Corgis and made a Fighter/Officer name Fitzwilliam Darcy. After only the first hour of play I began to love the game! Being able to light up the skies and Immelmann turn into blowing up a heavy fighter flown by a turtle and hare all the while my white scarf staying immaculately clean thanks to "effortless look" perk meant I was in love. It really is great and it made me turn a corner on 'animal people' games! You will not be disappointed!!" - Evan McKay

The station is constantly on the move, broadcasting from their retrofitted light cargo airship to prevent all capture attempts.
And MANY more to come!!!

What Can You Expect From Us?
First and foremost, the thing you can expect most from this Kickstarter is an awesome product that will provide countless hours of fun to you and your friends. Second, and we would venture to say the most important thing you can expect from us at Wet Ink Games is COMMUNICATION. We've all been part of Kickstarter projects where it feels that we are kept out of the loop for months on end with almost no progress being reported. We've been there too, and we totally understand how frustrating that is. That said, we will be constantly monitoring the comments section and responding to questions in the Kickstarter messages. We are even planning to have a few Q&A sessions where we will man the comments section at a set date and time, answering any questions you all throw at us.
Additionally, we will provide regular status updates up until project completion which will discuss various elements of the project as we progress through writing and layout. Every month we will release a monthly progress report that will detail specific tasks completed during that period, and we will strive to release more frequent updates around topics such as art assignment, games design, character concepts and layout. These shorter updates will allow us to give you insights into the design process without taking away from the monthly progress reports.
Risks and challenges
As this is the second Kickstarter for Wet Ink Games, we have learned a lot from past experiences. That said, we have been involved with many projects through the years and are working very close with other associates and independent game developers to identify and anticipate any barriers that could arise in order to take care of them before they become a problem.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
