About this project
Europa Tempest is the first book to explore the world of Wild Skies. Its focus is Europe, where everyone is still reeling from the aftermath of the Great War, which never really ended. Instead, 1918 was the year revolutions on the homefront engulfed all of the major combatants. Nations fragmented and loyalties were confused. In the years since then four major nations have remade themselves from the chaos. England is now the center of the Hedge, a fully-militarized authoritarian state with the world's most powerful air navy. France remains divided between the fascists and republicans, both claiming to embody the French spirit. Germany is still ruled by the Kaiser and has built a ruthless land fighting force ready to flex its muscles. In Russia, the Bear Tsar officially rules from his flying palace but many act in his name advancing their own agendas. In between and on the margins mercenary companies and air pirates eke out a living.
Many mercenaries are ex-soldiers from one of the old national armies with nothing to go back to. Others are young adventurers looking to make their own way in a dangerous new world. Free spirits, criminals, political refugees and opportunists travel together and call the Wild Skies home. Using the easy and intuitive character creation system, players can create the countless animal crew members and amass great wealth, take them on a journey of self-discovery or lead them on a path of revenge against an old foe.
Wild Skies comes with 30 different animals types to explore to maximize the story-telling potential of your game. Who better to outfox the authorities than a fox? What about an elephant bouncer who never forgets a face? The opportunities are endless. Even if humanoid animals just aren't your thing, you also have the option to play the game with human characters. Just skip that step in character creation.
The traditional powers of Wild Skies still operate and maintain massive military forces, with unique fighters, bombers, airships and weapons, but many of the mercenary companies roaming the skies can bring enough power to a conflict to rival many of the smaller powers of Europe. Europa Tempest examines all of these military forces and some of the most prominent mercenary groups, including their leadership, organizational structure, unique equipment and common tactics.
Wild Skies is powered by a new role-playing system with numerous elements that make it stand out from the herd. The most important is the story-driven system that combines the alignment and experience systems into one, fluid game mechanism known as the Moral Compass. Players choose what is important to their characters and what each character brings to the overall story. The characters then strive to attain the goals through each session and the collective story-telling with the rest of the group. This rewards players for playing their characters according to the motivations each player sets forth at character creation since everyone is actively engaged in the development of the story and subplots, leading to a rich and immersive experience.

Who is Wet Ink Games?
Wet Ink Games believes pen and paper role-playing games should be a collective storytelling experience for the enjoyment of all involved. We are dedicated to creating unique systems and dynamic settings to foster and grow your storytelling potential. The company was created in 2015 by Brandon K. Aten and Matthew Orr who have over a decade of experience in the gaming industry working on projects together and separately for prominent companies including Palladium Books (Rifts and Splicers) and Third Eye Games (Part Time Gods, Ninja Crusade 2nd Ed. and Amp: Year One). Now, we have created Wet Ink Games to bring fresh ideas to your tabletop before the ink dries.

"Brandon and Matt have a way of bringing concepts to life that I rarely see, giving depth and emotion to every word. You can’t go wrong backing a project if they are behind it."

First and foremost, the thing you can expect most from this Kickstarter is an awesome product that will provide countless hours of fun to you and your friends. Second, and we would venture to say the most important thing you can expect from us at Wet Ink Games is COMMUNICATION. We've all been part of Kickstarter projects where it feels that we are kept out of the loop for months on end with almost no progress being reported. We've been there too, and we totally understand how frustrating that is. That said, we will be constantly monitoring the comments section and responding to questions in the Kickstarter messages. We are even planning to have a few Q&A sessions where we will man the comments section at a set date and time, answering any questions you all throw at us.
Additionally, we will provide regular status updates up until project completion which will discuss various elements of the project as we progress through writing and layout. Every month we will release a monthly progress report that will detail specific tasks completed during that period, and we will strive to release more frequent updates around topics such as art assignment, games design, character concepts and layout. These shorter updates will allow us to give you insights into the design process without taking away from the monthly progress reports.
Risks and challenges
As this is the first Kickstarter for Wet Ink Games, there are certain to be a few hiccups along the way. That said, we have been involved with many projects through the years and are working very close with other associates and independent game developers to identify and anticipate any barriers that could arise in order to take care of them before they become a problem. We have a fantastic crew working on the project and plan to have the writing and art done by the Spring. All backers will be informed of any potential delays through our aforementioned communication plan.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
