- We have secured all the wood, plastic, parts, and bags we need
- The production process for the hardwood styles is 90% developed
- The production process for the Galaxy Line is fully developed
- The production process for the Executive Line is 90% developed
- We have automated 4 processes that were previously hand labor
The hardwood styles and Executive Line still have CNC issues that need to be solved, mostly tool path optimization to improve surface finish and dimensional accuracy. We have been doing limited production to work out the problems and expect to begin full production on Monday.
Mass Fabrication Jigs
Jigs for mass fabrication are nearly complete. The image below is the jig for holding wood boards; there is another similar jig for holding the acrylic rods.
We have developed a production workflow flowchart that outlines all the processes to get from raw materials to finished Switchblades. Each process has a well defined procedure that enforces standardization to prevent mistakes and wasted parts. A well defined procedure also ensures that we get consistent results regardless of which person is operating the machines.
The production workflow also includes the containers that the parts enter into and leave out of. This is extremely important because this project has over 60 unique parts and some parts go through 5 different processes before they are complete. A robust organization system eliminates a lot of time wasted on sorting and searching for parts.
Below are images of the polished samples for the Galaxy Line and Executive Line Switchblades that we have received from our vibration polishing partner. These will be the final surface finish we are going with.
