We have now reached 280% funded within our first 3 days! Thank you for all the support. Our next step is to create and purchase the tools we need to start fabrication. Here is our fabrication plan for next week:

  • Design the machining jigs to rough cut the Switchblades
  • Design the board gluing clamp for the Trimmed Hardwood styles
  • Purchase an oscillating belt sander to finish the Switchblades
  • Notify our material suppliers of our upcoming anticipated orders
  • Setup our orders and shipping management system

Additionally, we need to finish designing and testing the frictional mechanism that will allow the kickstand to last 6,000+ cycles (that is 6 cycles a day, everyday, for 3 years). This frictional mechanism is crucial because it is what allows the Switch to have an adjustable viewing angle.

We have also added a few improvements to the design based on some feedback:

  • "R" and "L" letters on the rail to denote which side they attach to
  • Rounded corners on the kickstand so they do not indent soft surfaces

Right now, all I need are an additional drill press, oscillating belt sander, and some cutting bits. We already have access to a lot of the tools we need. We have a plan to scale up to thousands more quantity if necessary. It would involve purchasing a CNC router, laser cutter, and large vibration polishing machine.

What sort of equipment will you need? How are you planning to scale your current operation?
