About this project
Cheers for checking out my project you lovely people - Have a gander at my writing style below - like it, love it, share it, pledge it.. :)
Book Excerpt #1 - Just a taste of things to come... My single plain white walled room housed a tiny window opposite the door which allowed little light to come through even on the brightest of days. However, a sheet of corrugated iron that had come loose from the roof outside blocked the rest of any sun that could penetrate, which made the place feel a little like a prison cell. A narrow bed ran against the wall with the headboard below the window. For 200 baht ($7 US) a night I wasn’t expecting the red carpet, although that’s exactly what I got as a used Tampon sat next to the bin. Lucky for me I wasn’t on a Bear Grylls challenge so I didn’t go over and investigate what uses and nutritional value it could prove.
Two 250pg paperback novels of events that took place over 18 months from 2008, working at a summer camp on the East Coast of America, before travelling over 15,000 miles across the world.
The first book, ‘An American Summer’, is full of hilarious and brutally honest thrills & spills working at a summer camp, what do we really know about what goes on when you're put in charge of looking after America’s youth; finding out how their funny little minds work. Making friends, falling in love and living the American dream (sort of)
The experiences throughout that summer took me on a journey across the world, where I encountered Thailand’s Army, elephants in bars, went to prison, and was held to ransom by some tiny Laos fishermen, situations that can only be fully appreciated when engrossed in a good book, otherwise known as my second non-fiction novel, ‘An Asian Playground.’ The paperback books will be small enough to pop in your bag and printed on lovely paper stock with which I'm still deciding on, (let's talk gsm) it'll also have lovely coloured (not black and white) covers.
These books have manifested from a hobby into a real passion, in which I’ve realised my love for writing, and my gift for telling heartfelt, hilarious and edgy stories that are told with honesty, humility and boyish charm.
These stories have been shared with friends and strangers across the world, who now want something tangible. I’ve been told for years that these books need a proper platform, and it’s now with the backing of Kickstarter I can provide you with the opportunity to get your hands on a copy of these one of a kind books.
Since deciding to launch this project, one of the main protagonists in the first novel, and one of my very dear friends, unfortunately took his life. The reality of the situation has encouraged me to pursue this project, and to dedicate ‘An American Summer’ to him and hope that those that knew him can relish in memories they've shared with him and for those that didn’t know him, find humour and empathy in my writing of someone I truly miss.
I want to show my genuine appreciation for your generosity in backing this project, For $10 you'll get a copy of the first book, in PDF format.
From $25 and up you'll receive at least two copies of a book for every pledge. The second copy is really how you are able to help spread the word of this book and become an instrumental and unforgettable part in the books future. ARE YOU READY TO BE A PART OF MY DRIVEL ARMY?
I want you to give the extra book away; leave it in a coffee shop, on a plane, train or automobile for a stranger to pick-up, as little way to spread the karma of these good natured reads. Perhaps with the aid of my Facebook and twitter pages you’ll be able to see who found your copy, as each book will have a little passage of how these books became a reality, due to your generosity.
Your pledges will be used to get each book professionally edited, and print enough copies that I can give you your own copy plus the extra(s). It’ll also go towards ISBN numbers, and registering the with the appropriate databases, creating the maximum opportunity for these to go into bookstores before they all shut down :(
If I don’t reach the goal within 30 days, unfortunately I won’t be able to provide you with the books. You also won’t be charged anything as you only pay if the project is successful. I guess its win-win for you!
I’m putting my neck out, but should I exceed my target goal, the money will give me the opportunity to complete three further books in the series for production. In the 3rd and 4th I reach Australia and New Zealand; where I find myself on TV, try to evade the police (not the pop band) and soil myself in a small stunt plane.
The 5th and final book sees me come full circle to where it all began in the USA, as I travel from California to New York, where I become involved in a train crash and drugs bust, meet the FBI and survive a hurricane. But I guess those can wait ;)
