The "Wisdom of the Furnace" is a large collection of my work that incorporates the principles of chemistry. It will showcase a massive array of my crystallized objects including insects, skulls, and other natural objects.
Over the last two years I have collected a number of different recipes, experiments, crystalline structures, and reactions. All of which will be documented in this book. Including precariously detailed macro shots of each type of compound and crystal I've added to my recipe box over the last two years. A book for the scientist and artist in all of us.
What you're funding is my first ever artbook, and in a sense, the second and final draft of said book. This project has been in the making for two years, up until a house fire my wife and I had last December that ended up destroying everything I had worked on for the initial book. Two days after the fire, I knew this book needed to exist more than ever and immediately got to work. With the love, encouragement and support from friends, family and all of you, I worked my butt off all year to recreate what was lost. This Kickstarter is my way of bringing you the calcined and purified object I pulled from the furnace. A 210 page artbook detailing all of the hard, frustrating and incredibly rewarding work from this year. Shot and composed with the utmost love that I could muster.
By backing this Kickstarter, you are helping me breathe life into this project and experience and taking your own little bit from the furnace.
The money raised for this project will go to cover a couple of things.
1.) The printing and production of the books. This will be a limited and self published run, and I will sign every single copy.
2.) Covering the costs of having the book professionally arranged, composed and edited.
3.) Hopefully any extra moolah will go towards covering SOME of the costs of making the more impermanent pieces that I'll showcase in the book.
The plan is to have everything shot and illustrated by mid-December and have the book off to the printers by then as well! It should only take a couple of weeks to print the books (depending on how the Kickstarter goes). I plan on having the books and everything else made and shipped to you all no later than March 2018. I will keep every single one of you updated along the way, and send emails as I move through each phase of production.
I am over the moon right now and so overwhelmed with joy that I can finally share this project with you all! Most of you have been there with me from the beginning and supported and encouraged me the whole way. You showed up when I lost my home and you've been cheering me on for the last year. There's too much to say and too many feels to be had, but I will say THANK YOU. Thank you to every single one of you. You've made these last two years incredibly surreal and incredibly joyous. You've given me the platform and space to create and perform and I hope this book will serve as a worthy momento for that time and resources.
So much love to all of you.
Let's make this thing happen.
Risks and challenges
For the most part the project is nearly complete. All of the pieces have been shot and documented excluding a dozen or so very special objects I'm working on and waiting to reveal.
The biggest challenge is simply the fact that this is my first ever book. I also plan on self publishing this run so that will be a learning curve as well. To help with this, I am hiring Jeremy Luther, a professional artist and art director to help layout the book in a very keen and professional manner. This will help expedite the making of the book and will definitely insure that you all get the best book possible.
I have selected a printer and I'm very satisfied with what I've seen, so I have absolute confidence that I can give you all the best book I can make. The only other concern I would have is any hiccups or delays in the printing process, but like I said, I'm incredibly confident in who I plan on using.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
