Walls themed for a crisp and clean spaceship. While the grim dark future does have loads of decaying gothic spaceships some races amongst the stars prefer to have cleaner crisper architecture. This product brings multiple shapes and sizes of walls, windows, and doors to maximize a new and interesting space battle. Everything is designed to follow along a 2in by 2in square grid and have a height of 3in.

The windowed walls offer a new spin for your interior space battles, allowing for more narrative creep factors and potential for custom game scenarios like a one-way force field that allows troops on one side to shoot at troops on the other side.
My products come in the form of 4 different tiers;
Tier 1: DIY/Low Material Walls
Plug to Foam Core Pieces, Socket to Foam Core Pieces, Door Bit for Foam Core Pieces, Extra Large Door Bit for Foam Core Pieces, Extra Large Door Plugs for Foam Core Pieces, and Socket Plugs.
This tier has been separated into two reward levels so there is the absolute basic package for $5. Which will include the Pillar File, Plug to Foam Core Pieces, Socket to Foam Core Pieces, and the Door Bit for Foam Core Pieces.
The second portion of this tier will be added to make up the $10 reward for those who want a bit more flexibility and options for their DIY builds.
Tier 2: 2 square (4in) Wall Sections
Tier 2 has all the wall sets that are two squares long. This means the 2sq Plug-to-Plug, Plug-to-Socket, and Socket-to-Socket in the windowed and solid wall version. Including a 2sq doorway model.
This tier is correlated to the $25 reward level. Note that this reward level is the first level to start receiving stretch goal add-ons which will be discussed later.
Tier 3: 1 square (2in) Wall Sections
Tier 3 has all the wall sets that are one square long. This means the 1sq Plug-to-Plug, Plug-to-Socket, and Socket-to-Socket in the windowed* and solid wall version. Including a 1sq doorway model.
This tier correlates to $40 reward level.
*Due to size limitations of other pieces and to ensure the modularity of the pieces only the Plug-to-Plug 1sq wall has a windowed version.
Tier 4: 3 square (6in) Wall Sections
Tier 4 has all the wall sets that are three squares long. This means the 3sq Plug-to-Plug, Plug-to-Socket, and Socket-to-Socket in the solid wall version. Including a 3sq doorway model.
This tier correlates to $50 reward level.
These pieces originally stemmed from my hope to make my own version of interior space battle walls, rather than saving up a ton of money for the commercial versions available.
In the initial stages of the plan, I was hand cutting foam core boards into panels that I would glue together.
While the walls were easy enough at this stage the pillars which would support these walls were tedious and difficult, the guide paths for the pillars entailed cutting multiple precise strips of foam board at 1/8''.
This resulted in tremendously unreliable and uneven pillars. I was stumped. It seemed that I wouldn't ever make a table's worth of terrain.
I started thinking of ways that I could make more accurate cuts, clearly the human element needed to be removed. I toyed around with thoughts of laser cutters and CNC's. The biggest issue with this was that the 3D Printing Lab/Maker Space I worked in had no laser cutter and only a very small and unreliable CNC.
Did you notice what I missed?
I had spent several hours trying to think of how I could more accurately manufacture my pieces while sitting next to 3D printers and not realizing I could utilize them.
When it finally clicked I had so much energy to get my ideas modeled up. I worked non-stop for a week getting the initial designs made. I spent several more days scattered through the fall semester tweaking and coming up with different designs.
All the base models mentioned above have already been modeled, printed*, and test fitted together. (* = 6in wall sections have not been printed due to printer size restrictions)
With regards to stretch goals, the plan is to start modeling them as soon as it becomes apparent that the first stretch goal will be achieved. As you will soon see some of the stretch goals mention voting. I have a lot of ideas for different scatter terrain to fill out your spaceship to complete your narrative. I would just arbitrary choose what sounds good but I think it is better left up to you, the backers to decide on what you want (in case they all don't get achieved).
Each Stretch goal tier will contain four (4) different models.
The options to choose from will be:
Forge Scatter #1
Garden/Green House Scatter #1
Cargo Bay #1
Barracks Scatter #1
Training Room Scatter #1
You may notice that there are 5 options here, but only 4 stretch goals for voting. That means we have backups. The stretch goals currently set up are just my best guess, every* $250 there will be another scatter set to vote on (I have a lot more ideas jotted down but no concept sketches).
*The exceptions will be on the even thousand slots were I will try to add different more generic updates or features. For an example see the current stretch goals.
The Stretch Goals:
$750 - Backers vote on a scatter set design
$1000 - Additional PIllar Junctions created: L's , T's, straights, and 45 deg pillar junctions.
$1250 - Backers vote on a scatter set design
$1500 - Backers vote on a scatter set design
$1750 - Backers vote on a scatter set design
$2000 - Pillar Height Expansion. Adding slots for connector pieces so pillars can be stacked to work as multi-level spaceship interiors or even as modular buildings for the standard cityscape battles.
+more! Stay tuned for additional stretch goals which will follow a similar pattern or something new depending on your feedback.
In terms of cost, all the base files have already been modeled. I will not need to pay for any additional software in order to complete this campaign.
The cost of my time for stretch goals will be negligible. I have plenty of time during winter break and the start of the spring semester.
I am a college student in mechanical engineering. I have always had a passion for making things when I got the chance 3D modeling become an integral part of that passion. Recently I was introduced to the world of 3D printing and it has given me a new opportunity to turn my creations into a reality. This campaign is meant to do two things, one if successful will allow me to purchase my own 3D Printer and other creative tools to make my visions come to life. The second task of this campaign is to test how viable my skills and products would be for an actual business model. I hope to gather a lot of feedback and be able to do something beyond this campaign. So thank you for taking the time to look at everything, even if you decide not to back. Have a great day and or night!
Risks and challenges
As far as the base models go, at the time of starting this project, all files are completed. All completed base files have been printed at very least once to test tolerances and fits except for the 6in pieces. The 6in pieces were designed with the exact same push fit tolerances so they should work. Once the campaign is over I will be emailing the files or link these files to you, the backers.
Stretch goals are a bit of a different story, as you can see I have taken a few hours of thought for each stretch goal but have not modeled them. Once it becomes apparent that the Kickstarter will meet its base funding goal, I will begin modeling all of the stretch goals. I am currently on winter break and have a large portion of time to devote to modeling these stretch goals I have no doubt that I will be able to complete them before February 2018, approximately one month after the campaign ends (very generous timeline just encase).
I will also continue to support the models and do any fixes necessary for the first 3 months. If I missed some part of the model or a large scale change needs to be made I will resend the updated files to all backers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
