About this project
Class Dismissed is a film in production exploring the types of learning experiences that can happen outside of the traditional classroom. Since January, we've been documenting a family who pulled their two girls out of one of the highest-rated public schools in the Los Angeles area to embark on the journey of taking their education into their own hands. They've already begun discovering alternative education strategies that are working for many families.
UPDATE: We've reached our conservative goal. Help us push it further so we can increase the production value & further promote this film!
Class Dismissed aims to be the first feature-length documentary that focuses on real solutions to today's education problems, but we can't do it alone as we've nearly exhausted our personal resources. With your support, we can wrap up this project!
We are over two years into the filmmaking process and now see the light at the end of the tunnel. With 75% of the filming complete, we are really pleased with how the film is turning out and can't wait to begin post-production, then get this movie into film festivals and into the hands of families across America.
HOW WILL THIS MONEY BE USED?
The money raised in this campaign will pay for our final shoots, and go towards post-production equipment & services.
HOW KICKSTARTER WORKS
Kickstarter is all-or-nothing funding so if we don't make it to $7,000 we get absolutely nothing and no one receives the awesome rewards.
We understand that not everyone will be able to make a financial contribution, but please know that every dollar counts towards us reaching our goal, and every effort you make to promote the project will help us reach more potential backers.
If you could help promote this project on facebook, twitter and to your contacts we would be incredibly grateful.
CAN WE EXCEED OUR KICKSTARTER GOAL? Absolutely! If we make more than our $7,000 goal, we will be able to finish the film, and begin the massive outreach campaign Class Dismissed deserves.
Thanks for your support,
Jeremy, Dustin and the Class Dismissed team.
Risks and challenges
There are always risks and challenges involved in making an independent film with a low budget. Initially, our biggest challenge has been securing enough funds to get the project off the ground and keeping production going. This is often where projects fail but we've had many people step up to the plate and help us along the way. This project is blessed with having so many people willing to offer their services and support, which tells us that this is a project that people want to be involved in. Our second challenge was finding a family willing to allow us into their lives for a year to document their experience, but after an extensive search we found the perfect family for the film, and as you can see from the video & our description, we've been able to complete the majority of the filming. Now we would like to wrap it up and move into post-production, which compared to the process we've gone through to shoot the film, is the easier part. Post production can be extremely expensive but because we've worked in the industry for many years we have relationships with professionals who are offering us reduced rates. The post-production process will be led by our director, Jeremy Stuart, a veteran editor, who has a long history of working on films and TV shows, for the likes of Lucasfilm, and National Geographic Channel, among others.
There's always the possibility of delays in completing and delivering a film, but with a committed team who have worked passionately for 2 years on this, and with the end of production in sight, we're confident we will put out a quality film that will be of great benefit to many across the globe. In terms of getting the film out there, a unique aspect of our project is that we have a strong grassroots audience and we plan to draw on their support. The distribution landscape is rapidly changing and we're engaged in pursuing non-traditional and new distribution channels for Class Dismissed.
