Dynamic Brazilian rhythm section with sensual vocals, lush strings and big band arrangements makes for a unique Brazilian Jazz CD
In 2004 arranger Bill Zaccagni and duo Minas teamed together to present “Symphony in Bossa,” a music program enhanced by Bill’s arrangements written specifically for Minas, featuring original compositions and traditional Brazilian repertoire. Their collaboration was a perfect fit. Their first performance at The Merriam Theater, in Philadelphia, received a standing ovation. Under the direction of Bill Zaccagni, this performance featured Orlando and Patricia Haddad of Minas with The University of the Arts Big Band, (including greats such as Tony Salicandro, Steve Beskrone, Todd Groves, and Alejandro Lucini) and was joined by Philadelphia’s finest string players organized by Tony Pirollo. Since then, “Symphony in Bossa” has been performed on a limited number of engagements for enthusiastic audiences.
“Symphony in Bossa” is a collaborative effort that represents some of Zaccagni’s best writing, reflecting his passion for Brazilian music with lush, beautiful and brilliant arrangements, combined with the popular and exciting performance by Minas. Unfortunately Zaccagni passed away during a time when plans were being made to take this unique and successful program to wider audiences. Bill was widely respected by the Philadelphia music community and loved by his circle of friends, family and students, who were devastated by his loss.
With your help “Symphony in Bossa” will become a reality. We expect to begin recording in the fall of 2013 and complete it by Dec 2013.
Minas, Tony Pirollo and Tony Salicandro feel that it is time for this work to be recorded and are working together to produce a CD - “Symphony in Bossa - A Tribute to Bill Zaccagni”. Recording “Symphony in Bossa” will immortalize this collaborative piece and create possibilities for musicians to carry on this extraordinary work for audiences to hear. It is our dream to make Zaccagni's music everlasting as it well deserves.
Note: Some of the audio tracks below contain the original arrangements written by Zaccagni. They are either unfinished or incomplete. We need your help to record new tracks, finish others, manufacture the CD, organize a release concert, and why not? With your support, let's nominate it for a Grammy!!!
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
This is a large undertaking because we have to engage a rhythm section and an entire orchestra. Nevertheless we are confident that we can accomplish our goal for several reasons: we have a fantastic team, a large constituent of supporters, and the experience of organizing musicians and producing records. This is our 7th full recording project.
