Num Dia Azul is a record that is very special to us. We were just kids when we made it in the early 1980's - living like musical gypsies, touring the country and raising our first child. The record encapsulates this youthful spirit.
Num Dia Azul was recorded in North Carolina, right after we graduated from North Carolina School of the Arts. It was released in Brazil, and included in the first ever independent catalogue of music out of Brazil.
Only a very small quantity of records were ever pressed for this release. Of this, several hundred were destroyed in a house fire.
Interestingly, the remaining copies seemed to have spread all around the world. To this day, we still get requests for this record from people from Japan, the U.K., Germany, The Netherlands, and Brazil. We have no idea how these people heard of the record. Not only that, but they have been requesting a vinyl copy.
Luckily, we still have the master tapes from the original recording sessions. Since we were never happy with the original audio mixes of the album, we now have the rare opportunity to digitize the master tapes and remix the songs to get them right.
Here is how the money from this campaign will be spent:
- transferring the master tapes for remixing
- studio time to remix the songs, plus the long forgotten alternate takes and bonus tracks
- remastering the new mixes for vinyl
- pressing the regular black vinyl and variant color vinyl, as well as the vinyl jackets
- creating a CD version of the original artwork
- duplicating the CD version of the album to include the never before released bonus tracks
With your help, we will be able to offer a complete reissue of Num Dia Azul. Thanks for your support!
Risks and challenges
There are a few challenges we face with this type of project. The biggest challenge of all is the timeline for pressing vinyl, which is often several months. Luckily, we have factored this into our project timeline and have allowed months of buffer time in case production is behind schedule.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
