Character introduction video from our sketchbook
First off we want to thank everyone who has supported this project by buying our preview sketchbook and limited Lost Issue at the shows and through our online store. We can’t put into words how inspiring it is to us to see your enthusiasm and how much we appreciate your patience with us. Because of your support it has kept our dreams alive and allowed us to get to this point - the completion of our long anticipated first issue of Hex, ready for the presses.
Our goal is to stay independent and self publish the entirety of this series. Self publishing is a huge undertaking and the challenges have been many. The past 2 years have been a long learning curve on managing all aspects of a comic book project that included finding the right team, traveling to comic conventions to promote the project, making the right business connections, and money. We did all of this on a shoestring budget financed out of our own pocket.
One of the reasons that it has taken longer than expected to get the first issue done is that Keu has had to work other jobs to finance Hex and support his family, thus he has not been able to focus all of his time on the book. We want to continue putting out the great quality of art that you see in these pages AND be able to release the book in a timely fashion. To do that, Keu needs to spend 100% of his time and energy to getting the next issues done before we can see Hex on the comic book stores shelves.
Our plan is to solicit the book through Diamond to reach the mainsteam comic book stores but it takes a few issues in the can, pre-ordered and paid for before we see any returns. All funds from Kickstarter goes directly to completing and printing the first few books. Specifically, it will cover the costs of talent, production, printing, and promotion.
We Need You at This Critical Moment!!
With the first issue done and the script set for the following issues, we are at a critical point. We need at minimum the first 3 issues completed to meet solicitation guidelines and ensure that the books will be released timely once they are solicited. The more funds we raise, the more issues we can publish and eventually get to a place where the series is self-sustaining through retail sales.
There is no way we can make Hex an on-going series in comic stores if we don’t meet our goal amount and more.
That’s why we are releasing the first issue through Kickstarter and giving our pledgers exclusive opportunities to own a special oversize edition, variant covers of the 1st issue, limited edition prints, original art and access to Keu Cha!
Words from the Creator/Artist
Comic books have always been a passion of mine. The combination of art and story captured my imagination as a reader and inspired me to become an artist.
My artistic goal is to push the boundaries of the traditional comic book art and format. Each page is a double page spread drawn on 18x24 boards, allowing for greater details in the artwork and giving the book an epic look.
I put everything into these pages I want readers to feel that with each issue they have in their hands an artbook where they can enjoy a great storyline and pore over the artwork. I hope Hex can capture your imagination and inspire you as the great comic books and artists have done for me.
For those who have followed us here from our website and social media, I am grateful for your continued encouragement and support for this project.
For those who have only discovered Hex through Kickstarter, whether you pledge or not, please friend us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and stay in touch!
"Keu's magnificent illustrations on HEX evoke the power and savagery of Frazetta, and the fluid grace and romanticism of Al Williamson - and what we are witnessing here is nothing less than the emergence of a new master. With HEX: THE LOST TRIBE, true excellence of craft is encapsulated in an exciting and original work the likes of which rarely come along." - Randy Queen
“Keu Cha is doing the best work of his career. Every time I see a new page or image from his Hex The Lost Tribe book it inspires me to no end. Truly awe inspiring art.” - Joe Benitez
Even if we meet our funding goal, the more money we can raise the better! The initial funding goal only supports the completion and printing of 3 issues. Having the additional funds ensures that we can continue the story and print more issues.
Zack Ketz for making our main video, Christina Granados for guiding us through our first Kickstarter, Michael Banks for assisting in making the main video, Jeff Trenkle for the awesome voice over, Lucky Cha for making our character video, and Randy Queen, Joe Benitez, Billy Tan and Leinil Francis Yu for contributing your immense talents. We really appreciate all your help for making our Kickstarter happen!!!
Last but not least: "M", Jeremy Shepherd, Phil Smith, Troy Peteri, Tony Wallace, Michael Spicer, Apri Kusbiantoro, Mike Alexander and Richard Boom.

Risks and challenges
There have been many challenges in self publishing this book, from the creative process of developing the story, art and production to the business side of funding, networking and promoting. Putting out each issue in a timely fashion is always the biggest struggle in an ongoing comic book series, and more so in this case due to the detailed nature of the artwork. We won’t kid ourselves or our fans by saying this will be a monthly series. We know that to get the high quality of art and story that we want and that our readers deserve we will be releasing the book on a bi-monthly basis. That being said, we have the first issue completed with the script ready on the next two. Our biggest challenge right now is funding. That’s why we are here on Kickstarter. If we can meet our Kickstarter goal (or surpass it), we can devote our full time to getting the next issues done. We will then be able to solicit one issue right after another to Diamond or directly to retailers so that our books will be in store shelves on a bi-monthly basis.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
