The Calamities of Jane is a webseries about Jane Singer, an actress of a certain age who believes dreams are still worth fighting for.

The Calamities of Jane is a webseries about the life of Jane Singer, a single actress of a certain age who believes her dreams are still worth fighting for. The show combines the flip side of Entourage with the zaniness of I Love Lucy, as Jane flies in the face of common sense and Hollywood nay-sayers. She proves that fortitude is victory by overcoming daunting obstacles daily. Hourly. Including herself. Jane Singer: too nice to succeed; too tenacious to give up.

The Calamities of Jane began as an acting class project, at The Richard Lawson Studio, where Rebecca Klingler was asked to turn the camera on herself and film a short project. With the aid of fellow Midwesterners Gayla Goehl and Nancy Beverly, Rebecca’s alter ego Jane Singer was born. In the quirky short, Jane valiantly showcases her broad-ranging acting skills with great enthusiasm for a famed casting director, who (in hopes of avoiding a messy law suit) has consented to an audition after clipping Jane with her car. Quite a dance of agendas on both sides.

The threesome realized they were onto something. They had created a character who had the soul of an artist, an innate vitality to pursue her dreams, and a Midwestern propensity for being nice.

With the support of seasoned producer Sheldon Silverstein and the insightful skills of cinematographer Seo Mutarevic, the little short became a polished half-hour sitcom pilot, featuring a stellar theme song by Jason Karaban and an original score by Sam Sine.  Upon finishing The Calamities of Jane, Rebecca sent it out to various agents and production companies... and while the reviews of the pilot were rave, the only substantial offer came from an independent cable network, with one catch: Rebecca would have to come up with her own sponsors.

Undaunted, much like Jane herself, Rebecca has turned to the internet to further showcase Jane’s adventures. The project’s heartfelt essence attracted fellow University of Evansville alum Neil Wilson, who came on board to co-write (along with Nancy Beverly) and direct.

We’ve all had a moment when we’ve had a special idea. The hard part is taking action. But the more action we take, the closer we get to our dreams. Now it’s your turn to help us express that universal pursuit of living the dream.

The money raised for the project will fund 10 webisodes, each from five to eight minutes in length. The shooting budget for each webisode is approximately $2500. The money will be used to pay the cast (SAG ultra-low budget minimum), the director, writer, producer, editor, and various crew members---not to mention food for the gang.

A big Midwestern Thank You for helping us realize our dream.
