Weegies is a new comedy series written by and starring friends Stephen Arthur, George Stewart and Matthew Joseph Campbell. The show follows the lives of 'Steve' and 'George', 2 budding actors who struggle to find work after graduating from Drama School.
Two guys. One dream. Nae hope.
With a successful pilot series already created and on YouTube, the team are very keen to take the show in a new direction. The brand new script is leaps and bounds above the original, and we are very confident that this will be the improvement that the show needs!
About the boys.
Stephen Arthur (Playing the role of Steve) is a Scottish actor, model and writer who successfully trained and graduated in Acting at the New College Lanarkshire (Motherwell College). His professional credits include 'Young Alan' in I Ran With The Gang (which he debuted in Toronto, Canada), Rab in "Kamikaze", Jack in "Crush", and Mr Mitchell in "Gold Stars and Dragon Marks". Some of his Film and TV credits include, Prince Alexis Mdivani (Million Dollar American Pincesses), Scot Squad, One of Us, and of course, Steve (Weegies).
George Stewart (Playing George) is a Scottish comedian, writer and actor, and completed his training at the College of Nautical Studies. Some of his more recent credits include George (Weegies), Magners Comedy Festival, and Project Scotland.
Matthew Joseph Campbell, too, studied at the New College Lanarkshire and graduated in 2016. Since leaving his course, Matthew has impressively already worked with the BBC on their comedy sketch show "Scot Squad", toured with Baldy Bane theatre company and appeared as 'Buttons' in SLLC's pantomime "Cinderella". Matthew also has a flair for writing and hopes that his input will take the show to the next level that it deserves. As well as helping creatively with the script, Matthew will also be playing the role of "Paul" in the upcoming series.
How did it all begin?
Having completed his training, Stephen quickly began to notice that a lot of creative graduates, who ventured out into the world full of energy and drive, struggled severely to find employment. So, pairing up friends, George Stewart and Matthew Jospeh Campbell, they bashed their creative heads together and soon had the pilot episode scripted. With the passion, excitement and script at the ready, it was now time to find someone as silly and creative as they were to actually film it! Introduce, Graeme Watt.
The creative team.
Graeme Watt has been an independent, completely self-taught filmmaker for several years. Working under the studio name "8 Acre Films', he has produced and directed more than 20 short films with the help of a dedicated and talented collective of actors, crew and musicians. Stephen, George, Matthew, Graeme and 8 Acre Films created the first ever episode of Weegies, which premiered to a sell out audience at Glasgow's ABC in 2014. They haven't looked back since.
With a full length pilot episode and multiple shorts on YouTube already, Weegies has racked up thousands of views and followers.
After establishing their new creative team, and auditioning the rest of the actors for their main cast, the guys finally approached budding and up-coming Glasgow based producer Stephen Hunter.
Stephen began his career as a stage actor working under his equity name "Stephen Humpage", and has already managed to perform on Broadway (to which he received a very prestigious "Best Emerging Actor 2017, NYC" award in 2016), as well as touring across to Canada and various cities around the UK. Back in October 2016, Stephen took on his very first film/TV production role on the short musical film "Miser's Dream", and has been working consistently ever since. He already has a number of producer credits to his name, which include "Tellurian" - a sci-fi action thriller created by the award winning "IronStar Films", "Shooting Stars" by IronKey Productions, and now "Weegies".
Where will your money go?
Wages. The team are very excited to be presenting a new series, and they hope, that with your help, this can become a reality. Everybody that's involved with the project agree that the stigma surrounding IndieFilmmakers and the standard "Zero working wages" has to stop. It is one of the very few professions in the world where people are expected to provide their own time, skills and effort for "exposure", but no actual monetary reward. Weegies is committed to provide everyone that works with them on this series, a fair and appropriate wage for their skills.
Locations. A large proportion of donations will go towards the cost of locations, and the construction of a set for the flat in which the boys live.
General Expenses. Producing a film of any kind is very costly, as general expenses have to be considered. The entire cast and crew have to be fed on a day to day basis. Travel expenses have to be provided to ensure people are able to make it to set (and home again!). The production needs to pay for insurance to make sure everyone is protected. Hiring of vans for kit transportation can be very costly, but sometimes completely necessary.
So there it is! We really hope you enjoy the brand new promotional episode, created specifically, and exclusively for this Kickstarter campaign. Please do whatever you can to help this production reach it's fullest potential. Even if you can't afford to donate, a share of this campaign on social media, and a like of our page can seriously help!
Thank you once again,

Risks and challenges
One of our major challenges that faces us with the new season of Weegies, is the construction of an entire set for the flat where the 2 guys live.
Originally, we toyed with the idea of renting an already established private residence. However, due to the intensity of the schedule and time that we would need access to the building, disruption to the present occupiers, etc., we decided against this.
Graeme and his team at 8 Acre Films already have experience in set building, which they used for one of their latest short films "The Nebula"; set in a space station in the future. The general construction and decoration of the set is now much less of a concern, but trying to find a suitable location; one which will allow us access at all times, private and free from noise pollution, safe and secure and close to necessary amenities, has become our biggest challenge. However, with the vast network of connections within the industry that everybody involved with the project has already made, we are confident that we will be able to find the perfect setting in which to do this.
Another challenge we are currently facing is trying to stay true to the "Weegies" style that many people have already come to love, as well as reinventing the show to give it the fullest potential we know it has. With many different, and new, creative minds attached to the project, change is inevitable but the guys at Weegies listen to their fans. They know what they enjoy and what they don't and we are more than confident that the new season will be exactly what everyone is looking for!
When this question was put towards Graeme at 8 Acre Films, he had this to say: "Since the beginning we always had to make the most of having no money and very limited resources and yet somehow still we were managing to pull off very ambitious projects. Very rarely do we not attempt something simply for fear that it can't be done. We are very resilient, determined and are used to adapting to difficult situations. Most importantly of all our sheer love of what we do drives us."Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
