Hello, my name is Meg Griffitts, and I'm a poet and Nonfiction writer based out of Austin, Texas. I have just been awarded a month long Artist Residency at The Vermont Studio Center, for the month of July. This is a thrilling opportunity for me as an emerging artist: a month of uninterrupted research and studio time within a vibrant community of 50 other visual artists and writers.
I've always been enthralled with branching-plot texts because of the unique relationship between reader and writer, the known and unknown, and the humming possibilities that these stories engender. I wanted to find a way to incorporate this interactive experience into my work, which is why during my time at VSC, I will work on a hybrid essay and poetry collection. This new body of work will allow the reader to choose their own adventure by navigating the forks between erasures of other texts and the narrator's memory. The essays will explore the expectations of grief and longing while the erasures will serve as a reclamation of narratives written by men about women about their sexuality and psychology (example text: "Any Woman Can" by David Rueben, M.D.).
I am honored to have been chosen for this opportunity and am deeply grateful for your support in making this a reality. Thank you for supporting and believing in art.
The Vermont Studio Center, which initially costs $4000.00, has awarded me partial funding for my project through their Artist’s Grant in the amount of $650.00 and a work exchange program for $600.00. There is a remaining amount of $3250.00, which for me as an adjunct is very difficult to come up with at this time.

Risks and challenges
While at the residency I will work on each individual reward. My aim is to ship all of the rewards at the end of the month-long residency, yet some of the larger works might take longer to complete and ship. Most rewards will be received by the donors in October 2019, with two of the larger donor bracket awards possibly being received in November 2019.
