About this project
An Independent Science Fiction Comic
In the future, genetically engineered creations are given consciousness rivaling that of a human being. Forced to serve humanity and pushed to the breaking point, they pick up arms and rebel.
This is the story of their rebellion.
In particular, the story focuses on the rebellion's newest recruit: a teddy bear named Borthaniel.
Borthaniel joins a colorful assortment of characters including an ice weasel, an outlaw orangutan, a raccoon, a gorilla, a lady fox, and another bear.
The other bear is Molasses, who can be found in the introductory first pages. Without further delay, here are the first 5 pages of Borthaniel #1:
Where your money goes:
Borthaniel issue #1 is currently in production. I have personally been producing the comic and funding work for both of the artists, Brian Brinlee and Clarissa Filice. The $3,000 goal is to get a large print run of the first issue going. Without your help, I won't be able to fund the print run on my own.
The story is based on a rough draft of a novel I wrote when I graduated from UCSC in the beginning of 2005. Since then, I haven't had the time to dust it off the shelf and give it the time it deserves...until now. The story is complete, from beginning to end and everything in between. I expect that the entire series will last between 14 and 15 issues, depending on the final page layouts.
Borthaniel #1 will be 28 full pages (24 + cover) and include no advertising. You're just getting pure story here folks, all the way until the end.
Any additional funds raised will go towards the following:
Promotion and appearances at comic conventions.
Funding the inking and coloring for Borthaniel issues #2 and beyond.
Paying the artists a better rate.
Increasing print runs based on demand.
I also plan on offering stretch rewards based on how much money is raised and include great rewards for each new level. The primary goal is to make sure the entire story can be told! With your support, we can make Borthaniel a reality.
