About this project
Ever stumble upon a magnificent view, or experience an unforgettable moment that makes you reach for your phone to snap a photo or video, only to realize that your iPhone is out of space?
This is a problem that is becoming more common as our devices become overfilled with digital memories that are too precious to be deleted. This is the reason we created Piconizer.
Piconizer is the first-ever application and corresponding iOS device that allows you to easily and securely shift your photos and videos from the camera roll onto a pocket-sized device that plugs directly into your lightning connector. The device also includes a microUSB port so you can easily download your photos and videos onto your computer. Use the app to organize and sort through photos and videos while easily making room on your iPhone for new memories.
Today, the iPhone is one of the most popular and most used cameras on the planet. In fact, Flickr recently stated that Apple is the number one brand used among their community. Having your iPhone on you 24/7 means we now have the opportunity to take photos and videos 24/7, and we are! We are treating our phones as if they are our own personal photo albums. The problem is that the more photos we take equals more storage used, leaving us with less room for new photos, videos and applications. Additionally, we are seeing the iOS 8 adoption rate slow significantly, due in part to the fact that huge storage requirements for the software are preventing many 16GB and 8GB iPhone owners from updating without having to delete photos and videos. Piconizer solves this problem.
Our eccentric team has experience in a wide variety of industries and is comprised of designers, software engineers, hardware engineers, MFi specialists and most importantly, Apple fans!
We are a passionate bunch that is focused on creating cool, innovative hardware and software that impacts how consumers use technology.
Risks and challenges
iOS devices have become the center of our digital life. Computers are not as essential as they have been in the past. We see Piconizer as a new kind of media that stores our precious photos and videos in a safe and compact place. It extends the possibility of your iPhone and other iOS devices, and has the potential for other apps to interact with it.
Right now, our production calendar is our biggest challenge. We are confident that we’re delivering a stellar product but we need to ensure that we have the proper backing and support to be able to keep up with consumer demand.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Apps, iTunes Music and photos stored in the camera roll are the most consuming items when it comes to data space. We shift your photos and videos from your iPhone to Piconizer. On the other hand, it’s an extension of your photo storage.
We are afraid not. Piconizer is compatible with all Apple products that contain the Lightning Connector. This includes the iPhone 5 and later models, and the 4th generation iPad, as well as later models.
iCloud is Internet dependent. If you are on the go with no access to Wi-Fi, you will not be able to save any of your old photos to make room for new ones.
Yes, you can. On the bottom of Piconizer, there’s a microUSB port that you can plug into your computer.
You could either use passcode or Touch ID to lock up Piconizer. When connected to a Mac, the passcode is required to get access.
We’ll introduce a tag system, similar to Google, Twitter or Instagram. When photos are imported to Piconizer the photo’s basic tags are dates and geotags. You can add tags to organize a group of photos with an event name or tag people in it. This make it easy to find photos later by searching for specific tags.
