So just to confirm, if we've not received our Dragon as of yet it should be with us by mid-May, correct?

    2. Morikun 4 days ago

Don't worry Jed, I can easily understand the situation.

Anyway, all my JSA minis are done and fortunately my Aleph decals are OK so I don't waiting for my JSA decals for tomorrow ^^

Just a romantic touch (after all, I'm french XD) : "forget me not my Dear" XD

Thank you Morikun, once we receive them we will take a look ourselves, and then forward them to the manufacturer. We are not putting in an order for Retail decals yet; we are waiting for more feedback, so it may be a good few weeks before we get another set to replace these (we have none left from the KS I'm afraid)

    4. Morikun 5 days ago

Ok Jed, I've posted my JSA Sheet today with a little letter and my adress of course ^^

I hope you'll receive it very soon.

      Thank you very much,

HI, I had a March delivery date, but I haven't seen my name in the list of updates of Dragons shipped and haven't gotten my reward yet. Can you let me know if mine is on the way? Thanks.

Thank you very much for the detailed modus operandi my Dear Jed ^^

In fact, I "finger tested" because by the past, I noticed that some decals (GW for example) were so strong after sealed, that my fingers couldn't affect it (But I prefer finish with some varnish).

So Judging from your answer, my Haqquislam sheets are perfect too.

So there is only my JSA one which is faulty TT

You didn't answered me about that : is there any special adress to send you the JSA sheet or I can send at your official ?

Thank you very much in advance,

      Serviteur,

      Morikun

      Hi Morikun,

I am a little confused by you latest blog image/post - I would consider it perfectly normal for *any* water-slide decal to come off a model if touched by finger/hand once the decal was dry, but before it was varnished.

Your finger has a moist (sebum) surface and will often cause a decal to adhere to it over the surface of a model, especially if the model surface is gloss… your finger will create more surface tension than the smooth, dry, surface of the model.

The smaller the decal, the more susceptible it is to getting "stuck" to your finger.

One should never touch decals by hand, until they have been sealed on to a model… it is very bad practice.
If you do need to handle a model (with unsealed decals on it) you should use lint-free gloves… and even then if you touch a dry decal you can lift it clean off the model.. or preferably never handle it where decals are placed.

Decals should always be varnished over after they have been placed and formed to the surface.

      However,

One can ameliorate lifting by improving the surface adhesion of the decal by preparing the model surface with a solution such as Microsol blue - and after placement, microsol red which will soften the decal and allow to conform to surface imperfections.
This ensures that more of the decal material is touching the surface of the model, it also helps reduce the chance of "silvering" (Where air pockets are trapped underneath the decal)

With these digital decals I have found that a surface application of blue microsol works well - once you have taken the decal off with tweezers, dab it dry, then brush some microsol blue on to where you want the decal to go. Place the decal - the microsol will "grab" the decal on to the surface. The manufacturer suggests there are better solutions (and those are detailed in the instructions)

You can then dab on to it with some microsol red and then allow to settle and set... other types of setting solutions also work, some better, some not.

If the surface is irregular you may want to use additional solution, to thoroughly soften the decal, then press into shape with a fine brush. The decal material in these decals is much stronger than traditional decals - however one should not be abusive to them, as you can still damage them with too much pressure. This is particularly true once the decal has been softened using Microsol red…indeed one should not really move a decal at all after Red is used.

Once dry then I varnish over them (well, actually I use Future first, then varnish after the Future has set… but that's another story)

Until varnished any dry decal can be lifted off, or 'flicked-off' a model, becoming easier with the flatter and smoother the surface is, and the smaller the decal is.
Professional modellers will either use setting solutions (as suggested) or some will add small portions of water-based adhesives (usually PVA or acrylic types{some use Future for application even}) into the water they use to apply decals with.

You can still do that with these decals if you wish to - personally I have never liked using that method and I have found that setting solutions do everything I need to, until varnishing.

As I showed in the second video - you can lift these decals off a smooth surface, even with the large decals, using tweezers (if f.ex I had left that decal longer and, say, in sunlight for a few minutes, I would probably have been able to lift if off with my bare fingers, just due to the sebum on my fingers - that though is perfectly normal for a (water-slide) decal.)

For all water-slide decals, if you do not varnish over them, then they can lift straight-off the model by touch - that is true for any and every type of decal.

Finally, remember that decals do not adhere well to bare metal or bare plastic because their surfaces are *too* smooth…wood and MDF are too rough and also absorb water causing a darkening of the background material behind the decal. (one should always gloss varnish MDF, even when painted, before applying decals) (There is an annoying element to decal application where too smooth a surface can be bad, not smooth enough just as bad).

This is why some professional modellers will recommend satin varnish rather than gloss varnish, before a decal is applied. This is a matter of personal preference and I have found that most painted surfaces are often fine as they are, even without varnishes - but even that varies depending on the paint, how it was applied and so on and so forth.

      In summary:

Decals should not be touched after application.
It is normal for decal to lift-off if they are touched by finger/hand
Surface preparation and setting solutions can ameliorate this.
Decals should be varnished over after application to both protect them and prevent them lifting off the model.

      Hi Jed ^^

So I made some test yesterday at night. I sent you a message asking you an email but as I see your answer to Moises, it's not convenient.

So I have highly updated my article here :

      https://letempledemorikun.blogspot.fr/2017/04/campagne-kickstarter-azure-dragon.html

I posted the results of the other sheets : if the nomade & Aleph ones seem to be OK, I suspect a little something about the 3 Haqquislam ones :

After waiting about 10 minutes, I would test the strong of the decals, so I put very very gentle my finger on it... And the 3 Haqquislam dropped.

Can you tell me what do you think about that please ?

And where must I send the faulty sheet ? To the officiel adress of Antenocitis or somewhere else ?

Thank you in advance for your answer,

      Serviteur,

      Morikun

It is best to message us on Kickstarter Moises, our email is not working properly at the moment. I will check our system now to see what address you used.

Hi. Do you have some email to contact you about a question about my order?
I can't remember if I put the adress of my house or my former job.
Most of my friends have his decals but I'm not, so maybe is because it arrive to a different adress.

No harm no foul Chris ;)

(Jed, please ensure Chris is earmarked for appropriate re-education at the next round of staff appraisals )

On a not unrelated note, any chance you might have any of the decal sets for sale at Salute? Realised that since ordering them I've built sizeable forces of Combined & Yu-Jing, the two factions I didn't order any decals for >_<

    13. Morikun on April 10

Understood. I'll check and send you the faulty sheet(s)...

And after that, I'll commit seppuku TT

Thank you very much for the quick answer,

      Serviteur,

      Morikun

    14. Antenocitis Workshop Ltd 5-time creator on April 10

Yes please Morikun - Send the faulty sheet(s) back to us and we will then send them back to the manufacturer to try to find out what went wrong with them. (and we will make sure that you get a working set in return ASAP)

    15. Morikun on April 10

Ok Jed, tonight, I'll check the other Nomad + 3 Haqquislam Sheets I've backed for and I'll tell you if I have the same problem...

But now, my JSA men are cursed and disfigured TT

Do you want me to re-send you my sheets ?

      Serviteur,

      Morikun

    16. Antenocitis Workshop Ltd 5-time creator on April 10

      Hi Morikun,

I do not think you have done anything wrong (except possibly persevering when I would not have done! :-) ) .

Read the update I have just posted - it is now clear to us that your JSA set is FAULTY. The cut on the individual decals is wrong - and there must be something else also wrong, that is causing the backing paper to stay with the decal - we've not seen anything like that before - so I will have to send them to the manufacturer to find out what exactly has happened.

In the meantime don't even try to use them - it will waste your time.

Check the decals on the other sets, if they do not work like I have shown in the videos, then they are FAULTY.

I have added a couple of your images to the update, so that people can see the fault: Let me reiterate that this is due to a faulty set, you have not done anything wrong.

      Jed

      My Dear Jed,

First of all, I'm really gratefull to you for your very quick answer !! Oo

Secondly, to be absolutely fair-play, I've updated my article, posting immediately your video to inform my followers about the situation.

Thirdly, you would be kind enough to explain me (on my blog AND here please : I always assumed my mistakes) where I'm wrong.

It would benefit to others backers and visitors getting the best information ^^

Your video makes me very curious and I'll retry tonight...

Thank you so much in advance,

      Serviteur,

      Morikun

Second video showing a larger decal being placed - I will add these to an update shortly.

      https://youtu.be/1nK481XrLIY

Also a note for people to look at the images in that (pending) update - which clearly show a FAULTY set issue - that Marikun has - if you have a similar issue then do not continue to use the decals, but return them to us for replacement.

Thank you so much for your answer.

I cant' wait watching your video indeed.

    21. Antenocitis Workshop Ltd 5-time creator on April 10

Hi Morikun, I will make a quick video to show you how easy they are to use.

After that I will go over your blog images.

    22. Morikun on April 10

Thank you for your quick answer.

Yes, I've read and followed carefully the instructions. I was told that it was not GW decals.

I really doubt about the fact that you can work with your decals in 15 sec but if you can show me a video, it would be gratefull.

I detailed all my experience in the following link on my Temple :

      https://letempledemorikun.blogspot.fr/2017/04/campagne-kickstarter-azure-dragon.html

I'm very curious to know where I'm wrong...

      Serviteur,

      Morikun

    23. Antenocitis Workshop Ltd 5-time creator on April 9

      Hi Morikun:

Have you read and followed the instructions carefully? They are quite specific that they will NOT float off with water (as they are different to traditional screen-printed decals). If you are expecting them to float off the backing paper - they wont : and that is not the correct method to use them.

(Every bit of feedback we have had on the decals has been hugely positive, We've had professional painters praising them in both detail and ease of use, ease of conformity to curved surfaces and so on and so forth.

Our own experience with them is that they are very easy to work with, go onto curved surfaces easily and often without the need for setting solutions...but that they do work well with setting solutions.)

It would be beneficial to know how you are trying to apply them, in detail, including model preparation and so forth, as that might explain some issues. Include things such as removal of the decal from its backing, what solutions were user (if any) and how the model was prepared if possible.

(Speaking personally, it takes me about 15 seconds to place a single decal start to finish - with no silvering or other issues... )

    24. Morikun on April 9

So I've just finished to work with decals on my JSA...

I really can say that I'm very disappointed by these stuffs that are really not as convenient and fantastic as I was told...

Since more than 20 years of painting minis, I never been so "embarassed" by decals...

Simple water is sot sufficient, decals don't come easily on minis and last but not least "easy to apply to curved surfaces" is nothing but a joke. Seriously.

I've planned to huy some Pan0 decals... But I'll keep my money for another stuff. Until that, I really loved your products, Antenocitis... But your decals really sucks to work with !!

Today, I started at 11h45 with about 10-15 minis... I've finished at 14h15 and I'm really exhausted.

Excuse my vocabulary. Maybe I am so unlucky and I get a very bad serie of decals... But now, I'm VERY disappointed...

      Serviteur,

      Morikun
