If you are reading this I would like to start by thanking you for any support you have given, or can give. Whether financially or through attending my gigs etc. I can't say enough how much it encourages me to have your support. Thank You :)
This project is one I am extremely passionate about and plays a major part not only in my career but also in my studies. I wish to use the finished product for promotion and to introduce people to my music. So far I have not had a professional product to pitch and this would be a big step in the right direction. This project also plays a large part in my dissertation which accounts for 40% of my final year's grade. The assignment is called a professional project and requires me to deliver a work that will help further my career and incorporate effective marketing techniques.
I would love for you to check out some of my previous work to inform your decision. Here are a couple of examples. I will be recording the majority of this record in the comfort of my bedroom and with the help of fellow musicians. The song 'Here in the Rain' featured below was recorded 2 years ago using electronic or midi drums.
Please make sure to read this next paragraph carefully!
All rewards are a choice on your part and it will cause no offence to me if you wish to waive part of your reward. In regards to overseas donations, I unfortunately cannot include the rewards that would involve me travelling, but I am happy to organise a Skype chat and possibly play you some songs via that medium.
Now this is my opportunity to give you a breakdown on the project. I realised through past experience that I needed funding for this project to become a reality. As part of my project planning I have devised a budget as a guideline. So far I have accounted for these costs and expect more.
Co-Producer/Drummer cost: £400
Musicians x4: £200 each = £800
3hr rehearsals start around £25 but can be as much as £41. We will need 8+ rehearsals. If we have 8 rehearsals at the lower rate this will cost us £200.
Studio Time for recording drums: £228 for 6 hours, although more time may be needed.
Not to mention the rewards!
CD Duplication and Card Wallet: £135 for 100
Poster Printing: 10 posters for £12 through Vistaprint.
T - Shirt Printing: £5.99 per shirt
All products will be quality checked, I wouldn't want you to receive a sub par product.
I will endeavour to deliver the majority of rewards in person to cut down on costs. But for further afield I will need to use postage. Via Royal Mail I can post a single package worldwide for around £3. For those receiving the poster reward this will mean 2 packages being sent via post.
Kickstarter's Fees and Pledge collection
Kickstarter states, "If your project is successfully funded, the following fees will be collected from your funding total: Kickstarter's 5% fee, payment processing fees (between 3% and 5%), and a Value Added Tax (VAT). If funding isn't successful, there are no fees."
Of course no money will be debited from your bank account if the project doesn't meet the target, and funds will only be collected on the completion of the Kickstarter. Kickstarter say that on the completion of such a project a 14 day window is necessary for collecting pledges.
The success of this project relies heavily on the provided funding and I have as best I can taken upon myself the majority of the work with the hope that a professional product will still be the result. Of course the more I raise above the £1928 stated the more I can invest into the project and the better the end product. Any extra funds gained will be used to pay for more adequate recording space as although we can get a good sound in the space we have, instruments such as the acoustic guitar and vocals can benefit greatly from a well treated room.
As mentioned before Kickstarter projects run on an all or nothing basis so your help in reaching the target is hugely valued.
I have a truly wonderful collection of musicians behind me in this project and am really excited to show you what we come up with. All the best and I look forward to seeing you at my gigs. Matt :)
Risks and challenges
One major setback would be not meeting my targets financially as this could potentially hinder the scope of the project. In order to remedy this I would have to re-address my approach to the recording and funding.
Another issue could be the time constraints. Although I feel prepared some elements may take longer than expected and require revisiting in order for the best result.
